I don't quite buy that explanation, but I agree that Felix is a somewhat effeminate character. A true Ukrainian would have helpfully provided the correct term. Brother sestra (Ukrainian for sister) is a completely absurd mishmash of languages. It was somewhat comically entertaining as an inside joke.
