best tatiana film thread

(copied from another place, hopeful this busy-busy board wants to weigh in too.)

setting Orphan Black aside, we've been tracking down some of her other work. best of the bunch is the rarely seen "Cas & Dylan" (2013). she's on camera in nearly every scene, paired with Richard Dryfus, off on a loong canadian road trip.

the imdb rating nets 6.6 from 710 votes. Tatiana fans more likely gonna give it a 10; imdb's webpage is here..
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2334593

what caught an eye today is how C&D debuts OnDemand for Comcast subscribers getting the Showtime premium channel, in addition to live on TMC in september. better yet get a hold of dvd's bonus content. ie, via Netflix/DVD members, or free from better public libraries.

anyways, check it out.

The only other things I've seen Tatiana in are 'Ginger Snaps 2' (she was good and the film was okay) and 'Violet & Daisy' (she was barely in it and the film was so-so).

Here's some other recommendations for movies to watch and enjoy Tatiana

Ginger Snaps II 6.5 Tat won a Chainsaw Award for best supporting actress
Grown Up Movie Star 6.5 Tat won a special prize for her acting at Sundance
Picture Day 6.4

Woman in Gold 7.3 she plays a younger Helen Miren
Eastern Promises 7.7 she only narrates a characters diary - uses a Russian accent

AND OF COURSE
ORPHAN BLACK 8.4 her best work to date and we all hope to have even more

> Picture Day 6.4

we watched PictureDay's DVD at home, wasn't half bad, appreciated the bonus content. like Cas&Dylan she's on camera nearly the whole movie. tat's wild-child / sexually active character is starting a do-over senior year in high school, played by a much older TM in 2012. HS classmates saddle her with a vulgar nickname Twist-Off as she mentor's a boy she used to babysit long ago.

I've been a fan of her since the early 2000s, so I've seen her in quite a few things by now. While OB is my absolute favourite, I think she's done a great job in the other indie films listed here! I really enjoyed Cas & Dylan (she made me cry) and Grown Up Movie Star, in particular.

I used to watch the show Being Erica, and she was fantastic as the daughter of Doctor Tom. It was always a highlight whenever she would show up.

I haven't seen The Woman in Gold, but I hear she was also very good in that. She played a younger Helen Mirren.

Grown up Movie star and Picture day are both pretty good. Tat is the best thing about Woman in Gold, which is ok. Cas & Dylan is nothing special, worth a watch for Tat but not terribly memorable (though in one scene she wears a blonde wig and cowboy hat and looks exactly like Helena)

Violet and Dasiy is super weird and she's in one scene. I think that's the only tat movies I've seen!

Everyone should watch Ginger Snaps 2. Tat is the creepiest ever, and won a chainsaw award for best supporting actor(apparently it is an award for horror movies). And you'll see why. She was only 18 at the time and played 7-8 years younger.

As most of the movies you cited above you liked, Teenage Movie Star and Picture Day she played younger, an advantage being so tiny herself.

So why is Tatiana's character named Ghost? Isn't Ginger the ghost?

reply

Yea I think in GUMS she was like 18 playing 14 or something

I think she was actually 23 playing 13.

And now the news that one of her newest films will be out on Netflix in early 2017.

'Two Lovers and a Bear' with Tat and Dana Dehaan as the two leads.

Plus she'll be in a more widely distributed film with Jake Gyllenhall soon too: 'Stronger.' but I have not info on when that will be distributed.

The deals were announced Wednesday, a day after the North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Fox has secured the home entertainment rights and following that release, the film will be available on Netflix in early 2017.

“Two Lovers and a Bear,” directed by Kim Nguyen, premiered in the Directors Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival. The film is produced by Roger Frappier and is set near the North Pole, in a town of 200 souls, where roads lead to nowhere and two souls try to find inner peace.

The film was shot in Iqaluit, the capital of the Canadian territory of Nunavut and its only city.

tlaab has been on top of my TM wish list for a while, added today to a Netflix' DVD-Saved queue.

thanks for the headsup scotty.

Now that Two Lovers and a Bear has played at Cannes and at TIFF, it has a rating of 7.0, which is good for a Tat led movie.

And her next movie Stronger with Jake Gyllenhall looks like it could rate even higher. Hope so.

reply

I loved her in The Nativity (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1719950/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_1) miniseries.

reply

I haven't seen all of Tatiana's movies yet but I loved her as Ghost in Ginger Snaps and I wish her and Emily Perkins would make a Ginger Snaps 3 together 'cause I miss the Ginger Snaps series. 😞

About Ginger Snaps II: someone once mentioned that we should try to get 'Ghost: the lost clone' onto OB somehow. LOL that would be great. Ghost should be grown up by now and would be a great foil for Helena.

Wouldn't Ghost try to lock Helena in a basement and use her against perceived enemies?

reply

Ghost would 'try' and that would be the fun of it, seeing them go at it.

reply

I didn't know about that but that would be fun. Maybe they could even get Emily Perkins to appear in an episode of Orphan Black. I don't know if she does acting anymore but she did appear in Supernatural for a few episodes. I would love to see another Ginger Snaps movie 'cause it is one of my favourite Horror movie series but I don't think it will happen now 'cause it has been too long since the last one.😞

Given the way the second movie ended, I don't see how a third one could be made. How would the story continue?

They could of course show us how Ghost used the werewolf to carry out her reign of 'moral terror'.

Recall that the orderly (same guy who played Chad in OB season 1) said to Ghost, isn't that supposed to be "mortal danger?" To which she replied "No."

If the whole third movie was Ghost luring people and pushing them down into the basement, I think that would get boring pretty quickly. The first two movies were about people slowly transforming into werewolves.

reply

There technically was a third film, but it was a prequel. It was called Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning, and had many of the same cast members.

But not Tat. And supposedly it was the weakest of the trilogy.
They saved money in part by filming it together with GS2, even thought the two films are separated by over 100 years in time of the story.
