Why didn't the detective want to talk to Alex

when she came to the police station. Especially when he had asked her if she would him help at the wake. Seemed odd. For all he knew, she was going to give him some valuable information

My guess is he wanted to gauge how serious she was about helping him. The angrier she was, the more dedicated she would be. Since her dad was the main suspect, he knew he needed extreme commitment from her. It would be tough for her to try to find evidence against her dad.

He wasn't supposed to talk to her because she was a minor and he could not legally speak to her without an adult who was responsible for her present.

well, since my original post was over two years, I cannot remember that movie AT ALL or anything about it

I actually just watched this on Netflix and wondered the same thing, but I think MissVaughn nailed it. But your response

has me dieing over here! Lol

reply

Yeah, I hesitated to answer because the original post was so old but I thought someone who had just watched the movie recently (as I had) might be asking the same question. It was stated later in the movie it was illegal for him to speak to a minor without her guardian present, NOT for the reason the other poster responded with prior to my response. I was wondering the same thing while I was watching the movie but as the movie progressed, the reason behind his not talking to her was revealed explicitly later. He did later go ahead and speak with her and asked her collaboration on getting evidence her stepdad was involved in the murder but he knew legally he was not supposed to speak with her. I think when she came to the police station the police officer at the desk told her and him it was not legal so she left and he did not pursue her at that time.

Sometimes I answer old posts (but not the REALLY old posts say from more than three years ago) because it doesn't seem the answer has been given correctly, completely or at all just in case someone has just watched a movie that has been out for awhile like I did. I go to message boards sometimes on these older films looking for an answer to my own questions and appreciate it when someone has answered with information I may have missed while watching a movie. I have also received responses to my own posts only a few months later and have already forgotten even watching the movie during that short time span so I can relate to your not remembering the movie after three years, LOL.

it did appear odd, and speaking to her at the police station in front of everyone may have blown back less on him than the way he went about it, which began to look as if they were sneaking around together..

As it turned out on that visit, I think, she was not going there to give him new information, as we assumed at first and hoped.

She was only going there to get a SITREP from him.
As I recall it, although she found her father's gift giving and disposal of her mother's stuff troubling, she did not really have any actual suspicions towards him at that point.
