Not a bad film, but I hated that the werewolf never really looked fully transformed. He just looked like a hulking guy with slightly more hair. Almost Human are a great FX house and I suppose I'm disappointed with the look the film makers decided to go with. There aren't enough decent werewolf films around to waste these opportunities.
I actually liked the way they did it. It fit with the movie's tone and overall looks... and remember, that was not the usual Hollywood werewolf mythos, which is what I liked about this movie. They went for more traditional folk story of man affected by lycanthropy.
If they decided to go for traditional werewolf makeup it could easily look too silly and too distracting.
overall, I was really surprised by this movie, I thought it was going to be really bad because I've seen first two movies of this director and they were pretty bad, especially Devil's Inside. But hey, if Uwe Boll can surprise with Rampage 1 and 2, why not this guy also?
I understand what you're saying but I just would have liked more than a guy who has to shave a little bit more often. They didn't have to go the whole hog, just a bit more would have done. Contacts, teeth, brow, ears etc.
Mind you, I liked The Devil Inside so what do I know? :)
Fair enough. But it wasn't supposed to be just a man, was it? Hence all the increased strength and speed and ability to transfer the curse. I suppose I'm just a huge werewolf film fan and really wanted a good one here. Mind you, Howl is looking promising. I think the last truly great werewolf film was Dog Soldiers. Your podcast site looks interesting, I'll check it out along with She Wolf of the Woods :)
I agree with you, mate. I really liked this film but I would have LOVED it if they had actually transformed in to proper werewolves. Maybe it was due to it being low budget?
There is something to be said for youthful energy, though I think the main reason the hairy dude was weaker was due to his raging hard-on for the blonde
I can see how the transformation is disappointing to some, but I thought he looked terrifying. And I don't think this film would have pulled off a "full" transformation very well. I guarantee it would have looked stupid/silly. I like that it was more of a disease than something totally mythical.
