That's why we hear a voice over of him talking about she has this, but not that; she does this, but not that. When making a film, everything in there is there for a reason. The hooking up montage was to show that regardless of how good a woman was in bed or how great she looked, if she didn't meet all of his requirements, he wasn't satisfied.
If you think back to what Esther said, it was like she wasn't even there when they first had sex, which was a major reason he was unable to truly get off while having sex. Jon put that distance between him and the women. Jon said that some women had breasts, but no butt or vice versa--they would do everything except go down or expected him to do the same. Problem was: if he couldn't watch then it wasn't enjoyable. See the issue: it was all about him.

If Jon brought them home, minus Esther, that was because they were at least an 8 physically. So there was attraction, but if she only had 90% of a porn star's characteristics, he was not satisfied--it needed to be 100%.

None of the girls had 90% of a porn star characteristics. They couldn't screw nor suck! DJ thought "sequins" was a 9 and that Barbara was a 10. Those two probaly looked better than some of the porn stars to him. But they both were horrible in bed as the narration clearly states. It even goes so far to say that since Barbara was so hot she wasn't going to give blow jobs.
None of the girls in the film gave DJ any more than 2 of the things he said wanted. Esther didn't have porn tits and ass, but to her credit she did ride him cowgirl. The others... nope!
I thought Esther was gorgeous.
To each their own. I've never liked Julianne Moore, and thought she looked even more hideous in this movie.

There really is nothing for me to even say to that.
I actually think Julianne Moore can be gorgeous in movies, if done right. I mean look at something like Magnolia - she was smoking hot even with all the psychoses and crying and being kind of a bitch. But in this movie they made her look so bad in my opinion, especially in the last scene when she and Jon are enjoying a day out in a park - she looks terrible imo. But maybe that was intentional - to show that he wasn't shallow anymore and didn't only go for girls with tonnes of makeup.

See, and I thought they went out of their way in the end to make Esther look softer in the end. I guess I just never saw any intention in the film to make her unappealing. Just a radically different type of beautiful than the scorching, lava hot Barbara.
But Esther definitely wasn't suppose to be a "cougar" type glamour queen. Have you seen the new trailer for David Cronenberg's Map to the Stars? She plays a more traditionally sexy type in that.
I'm sorry, but she did. I actually cringed when I saw her on screen in this movie. She looked really, really bad.
