shallow and obvious

Am I the only one who found this film incredibly shallow and obvious? The film is ultimately just your average story about a shallow, douchebag *beep* who learns how there is more to relationships than sex and how an intimate connection is more important. Every character in the film is an overly simplified archetype. Jon is a douchebag, Barbara is the seemingly perfect hot girl, and Esther is the older but more sensitive and caring love interest. And the film just makes obvious, tired observations about every one of them. Porn is unrealistic? Rom-coms are nothing but silly fluff? Did anyone who's ever been in an actual relationship find these things shocking or profound? And the fact that Jon ends up with the older, more sensitive lady in the end is just pathetic considering how the film is making fun of silly rom-coms yet follows such a tired trope.

Even the basic structure and directing is poor. JGL seems to have no clue how to structure a screenplay, there are far too many scenes in this film that just add nothing to the plot nor the characters(did we really need so many scenes of him just working out?). And he seems to have no grasping of the tone either. The film isn't really funny, nor is it dramatic. There seems to be attempts at comedy here and there, but all it amounts to is just characters using profanity which just isn't funny since there's no actual wit in the dialogue. And the film doesn't take itself seriously enough for dramatic purposes either, making it just a loud, tone deaf experience overall. 4/10

Anyone else agree with me?

I disagree, not everybody knows that porn is unrealistic or Rom-coms are silly fluff
a lot of people in this world don't think so, they would go in the same lane he did
in a rom-com the older lady must look way hotter than the young girl so probably in a rom-com he would pick Barbara and a lot of the audience would too
i agree with you about your points but i just don't agree that is shallow and obvious for everybody.

You are absolutely right. On top of the fact that he plays the stereotypical stupid wop. Ridiculous
