Age gap

Actor playing Jon and Ester are 20 years apart! WTF?

reply

And? They don't really hide it. Julianne Moore and JGL are famous actors, we know their age differences. Esther was also married before and had a son.

reply

My girlfriend is 20 years younger than me but no one ever seems to care about that. If it was the other way around though and she was the older one I bet we'd get slated! We don't care though, that's all that matters.

reply

It is more surprising to see a man with a 20 year woman than the other way around. My sense is that women tend to be more mature than men, so it is not surprising when they seek men with a higher level of maturity. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with a difference in age in either way, just that it is more surprising for the woman to be older than the other way around. It does not matter either way, as long as it is a good relationship for both who cares? So I don't think people see anything wrong with it, just that it is a bit of a surprise.

reply

It was refreshing. Odd, but interesting.

reply

I think that was part of the point. That it wasn't about their looks or age, or any fantasy surrounding it. It was more so about their understanding of eachother, even though most people wouldn't put them together.

reply

Yes, exactly the point! The film wasn't promoting the fact that they were going to live happily ever after together. It was saying that Jon had learnt something about himself and life through his relationship with Esther and they were both finding rewards in being together.🐭

reply

Yes agreed. He found a connection with her that he never felt before. Age and looks didnt matter. Thats the point of the movie I feel.

"Actor playing Jon and Ester are 20 years apart! WTF?"

WTF is saying it mildly.

Julianne Moore ruined the movie.

She is old enough to be his Grandmother at 55.

She's already gone through menopause, she was never attractive even when she was young, and why he would pick her to represent the real joy of sex for his character in this flick, just proves he's no Don Jon in real life.

He could have settled in with a 6. She could have been around his age, and it would have accomplished the same effect he was after for his movie.

A guy in real life that was doing the numbers and quality his character was doing, wouldn't get so horny that he would screw a red headed, freckle faced granny. And if he did get so drunk that he ended up in bed with a bag of wrinkles, he certainly wouldn't go back for seconds.

Too bad she showed up in this flick. I was having some good laughs at the candor in this movie, even if 50% of the dialog was BS.

Sorry Levitt.........you blew it.

P.S. A real Don jon would have dumped Barbara after the line of crap she handed him in the department store. No non-desperate dude would put up with that nonsense.

Not "his" character. Not "Don Jon".

P.S. I don't think Julianne Moore 'ever' looked good.

reply

That was part of the plot/idea. **SPOILER ALERT***

She was a lonely mature woman going through a difficult period, and it helped her to help and support Jon, who was just a kid/young man that needed some advice/guidance. They helped/supported each other without the complications of long term commitment.

reply

Then should have had some really nice sit down chats. PERIOD.

reply

I'm gonna disagree...boring chit chat wuldn't have brought the point across. I think the scene where they have sex and he's staring RIGHT into her eyes while he's doing it is the first time he's TRULY focused on the women he's having sex with...almost making "love". To him it was always a game, as much tail as he scored, it meant nothing, he got no fulfillment out of it. Even the various sex scenes they show earlier in the movie, he's never "looking" at his partner. He's focused on the side, not paying attention. Almost as if his imagination is elsewhere.

KUDOS to Leveritt for taking the brave route. Typical holywood ending he would've found himself and gotten back with ScarJo

Im gonna punch you in the cooter, I swear to God!

reply

I agree with what you said. He lost himself with her. He found a connection with her that was totally different than anything he felt before. I love that they wrote the movie just this way. The typical ending wouldve been with Scarlett but they did the right move when they didnt do the expected route.
