Mormon Equivalent of Pee Wee's Playhouse?

Pee Wee's Playhouse was brilliant children's programming. The Aquabats are apparently trying to do the same children's variety hour as Playhouse but with a strong LDS leaning. I just wonder when the team is going to meet space Jesus.

great show. ive listened to the aquabats for over ten years now, and its interesting to see them in a live action power ranger esque childrens show. the show definitely matches their music. i dont know how well it does rating wise, but i hope it works out for them.

What are you talking about? Where exactly is this "strong LDS leaning"? I've followed The Aquabats for over a decade and they've always kept their religious affiliations private and separate from their musical career, obviously because they're not all LDS, it's only three members.

Though I can possibly see a 'Pee Wee' influence, if anything, 'Super Show!' is predominantly an outright homage to the 1960s 'Batman' series, right down to the camera angles and set design. I don't think it's similar to 'Pee Wee's Playhouse' at all, other than how they introduce cartoons into their live-action format.

A strong LDS leaning? I think you'd be closer if you said a strong LSD leaning lol

This show is wacky and fun and awesome.

Aquabats remind me of a show I used to watch in the 90s called Weird TV, which showed a bunch of crazy skits and stories featuring bizarre fiction and news related oddities. The Aquabats would've fit in perfectly on that show, it's really offbeat(which I love). And the TC mentioning Pee Wee's Playhouse, both are offbeat in that way. Offbeat comedy was probably at it's high point during the mid-80s through mid-90s. I was always a fan of that style, nonetheless, and love the Aquabats!

Just because a few or all members are Mormon doesn't mean they are making this all lds. But even if they were there is absolutely nothing negative about this show at all. Great for kids and so much going on! Fun

It's a hilarious KIDS show and Theology-Free, thank gawd..!

I'm surprised you guys haven't recognized all the Mormon symbolism sprinkled throughout this TV show.

There's plenty in the first episode alone. Manant is a prominent villain in the Book of Mormon. Don't even get me started on the legendary Burger Rain. It's a well known LDS sign that we're supposed to look out for that will signal Jesus' second coming.

So true! And the blue suits...Magic Underwear for sure. I'm certain the guys never go without 'em.

Seriously, the show is fairly secular. Just the old battle of goofy good vs. silly evil.

I LOVE THE AQUABATS! I was so glad they were on Netflix. Wish I could see more of the eps.

...to the old Sid & Marty Kroft shows of the 70s. Even had Rip Taylor as a genie ala Sigmund the Sea Monster.
