Beautiful small film - watch it!

We saw this film tonight on demand. After Words is a charming, picturesque film set in beautiful Costa Rica. The plot is simple. A depressed, curmudgeonly librarian travels to Costa Rica for a vacation.

There she finds more than she expected. Companionship and immense natural beauty, She learns more about herself and about life when more than half of your life is over.

It is not a trite romance. If you love Marcia Gay Harden then you MUST see this movie. If you like the glorious beauty of a tropical location then watch this movie. And if you have dealt with depression and loneliness then watch this movie.

It offers three fantastic actors who give excellent performances, a beautiful location, a thoughtful story, and laughter and tears. It is well written, beautifully filmed, and not a cliche. The pace is moderate. Certainly a relaxing Friday night film for an over age 50 couple.

Edit: I woke up thinking about this lovely film, After Words. I might need to see it again and recommend it to family and friends.

Good review.

A very simple and laid back movie. Normally don't like romance movies but this one was very touching and not a try hard. Really liked it and surprised there aren't more threads on this movie.

Npladybug- Thank you for your review. I'm gonna watch it. :-)

Sorry! It should have been BP LADYBUG!
Thank you!

I enjoyed it.
A low key but beautiful film.

I absolutely agree!

What a beautiful film. Oscar Jaenada played his role with such charm and a sweet gentleness that you couldn't help but hope MGH's Jane would fall in love with Juan.

Perhaps the greatest gift this film offers is the joy of a slowly unfolding tale.

My only complaint: subtitles "loosing your touch...". Arrrgghh! Yes, I'm one of those people.

I'll be watching After Words many more times.

I almost didn't watch this movie but so glad that I did. It was great! Surprised at the lack of activity on the message boards.

As others have already commented, there is nothing small about this movie. Where do you get off on saying an hour and a half movie is tiny?? I mean we would have watched it anyway even being that length but I was also mislead by your calling it a "small film".

reply

How could you not possibly get that what was meant by a "small" film was that it wasnt a blockbuster Hollywood big film? How did that comment of it being small mean the length of the movie????
