Loving It

Watching this on Showtime Showcase and loving it. Some thoughts:

I've traveled a lot and often find romance with local guys, so I could relate in that way, even if I can't relate to the main character's despondency and desperation. What I love about this is that the two main characters find such a connection, even though neither is looking for it, for various reasons which become evident as the film plays out. That's the best kind of feeling - to find something you didn't know you would, when you didn't know you were even looking for it.

The setting is gorgeous, and the pacing is perfect - you will feel as though you're on vacation too. There is some darkness, but it does not feel gratuitous. This film is as much about the predictability of life as it is about the unexpectedness of it.

That last paragraph is lovely. Although the description, in its entirety, is so well written and captures the essence of this movie beautifully. Thank you.

I just finished watching and had to come here and see if anyone else enjoyed it as much as I did!

I even had to go read the last line in Tale of Two Cities. ;)

Its actually a lot like real life. Those handsome Costa Rican guides love to charm the pants off of middle aged gringas, I've seen it happen many times. My ex girlfriend ended up marrying a Costa Rican guy who was 15 years her junior.

They love the gringa's money too! Its upward mobility for those sly devils. I think of it was a form of prostitution.

You can't be serious, the Costa Rican guy was bending over backwards to get into her pants and her $$$$. You sound naive.

And you missed her point.
