Why in tarnation did they put a dog in this?

Every 5 minutes, I am thinking “where’s the dog? Where’s the dog? OMG, please don’t eat the dog?”

Couldn’t focus on the rest of the story. Should have called it “The Dog Between Us”.

The dog was ADORABLE though.

I thought the central dilemma would be eat the dog or die. Either way it would have made a better ending to the film than having to explain a brown baby to her white boyfriend. That might only be the directors cut though.
