Would One More Season For Closure Really Have Killed Lifetime?

Surprised by this cancellation. Guess I was comforted by how they axed and then resurrected Drop Dead Diva for 2 more seasons before it came to an end.

Devious Maids' original purpose was to comically highlight how these Latinas had big ambitions and desires beyond their day jobs. It's a shame we won't get to see where they all end up.

At least it lasted twice as long as Witches of East End, I guess.

I think there should have been one more year to wrap up the storylines or at least a tv movie.

I'm surprised DM didn't return. The ratings weren't great, but definitely higher than Lifetime's numbers for their typical garbage. Marc Cherry rumored a fifth season would be the end of the series. (The S4 Finale could have definitely set up for this.) You might remember Season 4's original order of 13 was trimmed 3 eps. Remy and Valentina didn't return in any way during the past season. All measures to pay the main cast and keep the series afloat.

It's never been mentioned in any of the trends but my guess is DM got cancelled due to "budget issues" and/or contract negotiations. Translation: Someone wanted too much money for another season, so the network pulled the plug. If you remember, ABC's Samantha Who was a top performer in its category and slot, but Christina Applegate wanted a huge salary for the series to continue to Season 4, so ABC gave her the bird and it got axed.

Low ratings is part of it, but since Ana Ortiz (Marisol) is the focal character in DM, she probably got paid more, so the writing room tried to mitigate lowered ratings by attempting to write her out of a fifth season. It's an ABC Studios show, and ABC owns Lifetime so it's cheaper to make, but apparently even attempting to reduce the cast due to budget constraints didn't work.
