Character design did not match tone of the story

I think the character design was a severe misstep. It was far too "cartoony" and characters looked like a caricatures. I don't know why the Producers chose to go with this style rather than adapting the look of the original source material, which they have always tried to do with past movies.

Frankly the animation style reminded me of the Curious George movie. Not a gter int good thing considering that the story is so dark.

I think that was the point. To draw Superman looking ridiculous and cartoony to reinforce the point that he's old fashioned, silly and outdated and to contrast the story. I mean, compare his look to Lois. She looks normal and he looks exaggerated. It also makes the reveal at the end where he supposedly goes beserk that much more surprising. To see someone who looks ridiculous and exaggerated turn into a maniac.

But I agree that it was still too cartoony. There's nothing wrong with drawing Superman looking cool. He can still be a boyscout and kick some a$$ while looking like a cool superhero.

But the character design is easily overlooked because the story being great overshadows it and makes you forget that he looks so ridiculous.

How does it feel to be deconstructed?

Superman is not the problem, its the elite that looks too cartoony.

" Look, there's two women fuc*ing a polar bear!"

I agree, the character design is what held it back somewhat, because the subject matter. It was probably a money issue, keeping animation costs down.

Aye. It's pretty hard to be afraid of the Elite when they look like they were drawn by Osamu Tezuka's bastard grandson.

Even the box cover art is superior to the animation design. They should have went with that look.

I actually stopped watching when the elite first appeared.
I couldn't get past how awful it looked for me.

When Superman was fighting Atomic skull and they were flying about up above the city, a few frames into the action going further away from the camera angle superman just became a group of circles with red and blue coloring.

I'm so disappointed in this film. -but hey, that's just me.
