why is manchester black an aussie?

surely he should be english?

reply

His voice actor is British, so blame him.

That being said, even the British have different accents for where you are, just like there are different American accents, and Australians where just British criminals. And since Manchester grew up in the ghetto so to speak, is accent is unrefined.

Igasu>

originally from Wales and have been in liverpool for near a decade. but i'll be sure to hop to the US to see the guy :o

reply

While I cant place Manchester's accent, to me, it does not sound Australian. And while it can be easy to confuse the two because Aussie's are a kin to Brits I can differentiate between the two.

igasu - i was being sarcastic with the aussie bit. point was, it was a god awful british accent. the ones seinfeld did in his show was on this level.

anyhoo, it's done. hopefully they won't be so lazy with casting next time

reply

I think that was the point. He is a character that grew up in poverty, its just not going to sound like your typical British accent, he also lies about everything. His accent just plays into that.

Basically, Americans are largely exposed to accents from South England, so that's what they what springs to mind when they think of an English accent. The character of Manchester Black was portrayed as a Northerner in this movie, which is why some people are seem so confused.

"Why do you say this to me when you know I will kill you for it?"

reply

manc black is a northener, i live in liverpool (to americans, about 40 mins drive away ish) and they do not sound like that. the accent was awful.

it wouldn't be anymore ridiculous with a yosemite sam accent ffs!

^Lol, it was bad sounding but it was never Mary Poppins (Dick Van Dyke) bad.

And when reading the old comics, Manchester Black easily comes across as somebody with an over exaggerated and rather pronounced British cockney sounding accent anyways.

Generally the English accents in this were awful (Yes I know Manchester Black was voiced by an Englishman).... but seriously couldn't they have got Chris Eccelston??

reply

He was. Australian accents are different. Im not englishman myself, so i may not be the best judge, but ive talked with a fair share of englishman and the accent soudned ok. then again this was being played on a laptop speakers so there wasnt much palce for variation.

He sounded scottish at the first of the movie, and then slowly progressed into some form of an English accent. But the main question is, why did his sister and dad both talk with normal English accents and he didn't.

reply

yes, his accent was all over the place. Scottish, Northern English, Southern English, Aussie, it was a mess.

Quite surprised at the amount of swearing in it as well - w*nker, tosser etc.

reply

Didn't he always lie about where he came from?

I was quite amazed to find out that the voice actor is infact english. Throughout the film I was wondering, why couldnt they get a british actor to the voice, it sounded horrible.
