Yeah.... Bo Callahan totally would've filed a collusion grievance.

The Browns and Seahawks swap picks back and forth for no apparent reason only to draft the guys they were getting anyway and Callahan's signing bonus falls significantly. I mean, he might not have necessarily won the grevance, but to the outside observer this would've screamed collusion.

Collusion to what end? I could see if there was a pick inbetween but since they were back-to-back picks, Bo would have gone either way and more than likely at 6.

I'd suspect collusion if Browns had 6, Seahawks had 7, and Weaver was on the phone with whomever had pick 8 to jump ahead of Seattle.

I get what you are saying, but I think the claim falls apart when other teams (who were not in on any of the trades) also passed on him.

He could file, but as you said, I don't think he'd win since four other teams passing on him contributed to the slide and loss of signing bonus.

Collusion is when teams conspire to not sign free agent players, trying to hold salary levels down. This has occurred in the past in baseball and football, but that was decades ago. Nothing like that happened here. A player fell in the draft while the GMs did their wheeling and dealing behind the scenes. Happens every year.

You'd have to prove that the teams that had picks 2-5 were involved as well though, because otherwise there'd be no way to know in advance that this would've worked even if the Seahawks and Browns colluded. And they weren't involved.

reply

There is zero chance to prove who the teams were "getting anyway"....

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?
