Love, Compassion and Courage

It was good to see women and men fight for change.

It's good that some Indian women are in the position to fight, even though it's terrifying.

It's great that they even have laws against gendercide, as that shows that people in power have tried to change things.

It's so important that we are aware of these things so we can voice our concerns and help facilitate action.

I think we all have to have compassion and courage to help others. We can't look at this as a problem over there. It's a world issue. Most reading this are lucky enough not to have been born in a society that condones such atrocities, and that's why we should help. If those who can won't, who will?

I know in my own family, there are members who do feel that having a little girl does mean they are raising her just in order to lose her to her husband's family. But there are also members who don't feel this way, and I see that change occurring in a small scale. Even my grandfather may not have cared that his grand daughter got married, but he is also being cared for by his own flesh and blood daughters. He can't deny that they are the ones caring for him. That they are completely capable of being there for them, married or not.

Another side of my family does not share this feeling about women, and the women are what holds the family together. The one child that abandoned their parents, was their only son. They saw first hand that a son is not always the best child. A child with great character is what a family needs.

The great thing about traditions and cultures, is that we can take what we like and throw away the rest. It's not easy for everyone, but it's possible. Our weapon is our ability to spread a message of love. When you ignore a problem, it never goes away. When you fight a culture with hate, we will get hate in return, so while we can be disgusted, it has to be with a idea, not the people.

Bravo to the film makers and the brave people who appeared in this documentary. May they continue to sway people to fight for what they know is right.

This is a great post that I completely agree with. These people who participated in this was very brave and those fighting to change this is even braver. This was quite disturbing and hearbreaking to watch.

Yes but it's disturbing how many of the laws to protect women in these countries, particularly in India, are simply being ignored.
