Will This Ever Air in the States?

Since I wasn't able to catch the first episode here because it never aired where I am, I am hoping they'll be smart or kind enough to air it at some point in the States. They're airing The White Queen on Premium Movie Channels in the states, so I'm hoping someone will bring The Mill to the States if BBCA doesn't seem to bother.

reply

Most likely no. (Unless you watch it later on a premium channel)
Heres some sites that you can watch it: http://www.alluc.to/tv-shows/watch-the-mill-2013-online/season-01/episode-01/518945.html
Should be updated whenever a new episode comes out.

Well, that sucks. Thanks though. Here's to hoping the U.S. (or BBCA) smartens up! Cheers!

This is the reason that piracy is so attractive. There are no regional restrictions. Virtually every show is available to everyone regardless of where they live or what channels decide to carry it.

Yep, at least 20-30 minis/series over the years I've had no option but pirating. It sucks how infrequent progress is with the whole substitution of internet vs. stubborn TV networks issue, but we're getting there at least.

Not to mention that the TV industry still wants people to believe that if they miss an episode, their only option is to wait for it to be repeated. And if it's canceled, it's gone forever, unless they decide to release a DVD.

There are so many shows that I watched in the 70s, 80s and 90s, that were canceled after one or two seasons and then disappeared. Even just a couple years ago, ABC aired a sitcom called Better With You, which was canceled after one season and never released on DVD. Of course I have pirated copies of all the episodes, but the networks want to pretend that the show has completely vanished.

Some people will say that the pirated copies hurt the chances of a DVD set being released. Personally, I prefer the certainty that I can have copies of the episodes over the chances that the network might decide to release a DVD somewhere down the road.

Many shows never get a DVD release: Special Unit 2, Seven Days, All Souls, Close to Home, Committed, Chase, Beyond Westworld, Thanks, Mercy Point (can't find this one anywhere!), Sleepwalkers (whole series has never been released), Soldier of Fortune Inc. (can't find any copies!), A Man Called Sloane, Spy Game, The Amazing Spider-Man, Anna Lee, Automan, Cavemen, Codename Eternity, Werewolf, etc.

Werewolf is an especially frustrating one as a DVD company had the episodes all set and ready to go, but two copyright holders wouldn't license two songs. Since the studio no longer had the separate dialog track, those songs couldn't be replaced and the whole project was scrapped. Not that I approve of changing music for the DVD, but it would have been better to change two songs rather than have none of them on DVD. Personally, I think they should have muted the audio during those scenes and had optional subtitles. If they had, someone could have used the audio from the pirated copies for those scenes.

see I haven't even heard of 99% of those shows, I may well love them.

there was actually a recent article with the writers of Game of Thrones saying they actually have piracy to thank for the show becoming more popular than Jesus. One said something along the lines of it being better than an Emmy lol

*edit* scratch that, it was CEO of Time Warner not a writer, the parent company of HBO one of the biggest networks. that's really saying something.

Special Unit 2 - 2001, 2 seasons, 19 episodes, comedy/drama. A secret police department hunts monsters. Edited copies recorded from SciFi exist.

Seven Days - 1998, 3 seasons, 66 episodes, drama. Government has a time machine that can send one person back in time seven days. They use it to prevent major disasters. Edited SciFi copies exist.

All Souls - 2001, 1 season, 6 episodes, drama. A haunted hospital. Can't find any copies.

Close to Home - 2005, 2 seasons, 44 episodes, drama. Legal drama about a DA's office. Good off-air copies exist.

Committed - 2005, 1 season, 13 episodes, comedy. Romance between two eccentric characters. Good off-air copies exist.

Chase - 2010, 1 season, 18 episodes, drama. Police drama following a female US marshal. Good off-air copies exist.

Beyond Westworld - 1 season, 5 episodes, drama. Follows the movie Westworld and is about the head engineer trying to take over the world with robot duplicates of people. Low quality copies exist.

Thanks - 1999, 1 season, 6 episodes, comedy. A pilgrim sitcom. Yes, it was pretty bad. Very low quality copies exist.

Mercy Point - 1998, 1 season, 7(?) episodes, drama. Futuristic hospital drama set in space. Some sites list 7 episodes, some list 8. Can't find any copies.

Sleepwalkers - 1997, 1 season, 9 episodes, drama. Doctors help people by going into their dreams. All 9 episodes were released on VHS in Japan, but rental only, you couldn't buy them. Most of the episodes were supposedly released on DVD in Germany. Six of the episodes were edited together to form three 90 minute movies for a DVD release. Copies of these edited versions exist.

Soldier of Fortune Inc. - 1997, 2 seasons, 37 episodes, drama. Solider of Fortune Inc. was a syndicated show about a group of ex-soldiers (and a spy) who take mercenary jobs, if they fit their ethical code. They're often secretly hired by a shadowy government official. The show's first season was highly praised for the accuracy of the military tactics and weapons handling. For the second season, they fired some of the cast, hired a couple new people, including Dennis Rodman(!), made Melinda Clarke's spy character into a wimp, flushed all the accuracy down the toilet and renamed the show Special Ops Force so that they could keep the initials SOF. Fans called it Special Ops Farce. Some have said that low quality VHS copies exist and better quality copies in German, but I haven't been able to find either.

A Man Called Sloane - 1979, 1 season, 12 episodes, drama. Action spy show starring Robert Conrad, along with a sidekick who has a metal hand. The pilot movie actually aired after the series went off the air and starred a different actor. Very low quality copies exist.

Spy Game - 1997, 1 season, 13 episodes, drama. Light-hearted spy drama. Decent quality copies exist.

The Amazing Spider-Man - 1977, 2 seasons, 13 episodes, drama. First (as far as I know) live-action version of Spider-Man. Considering the state of special effects in 1977, and the fact that this was produced on a TV budget, the effects weren't so special. Spider-Man's trademark web swinging was reduced to occasionally using a stock shot from the pilot of him swinging from one building to the next while hanging from a flagpole. Most wall-crawling shots were done by turning the camera on its side. Decent copies exist.

Anna Lee - 1993, 1 season, 6 episodes, drama. Series of six UK TV movies about a female detective. Decent quality copies exist.

Automan - 1983, 1 season, 13 episodes, drama. SciFi show about a computer generated, holographic superhero who can only exist at night because of his power requirements. Decent quality copies exist, but may be edited (they're not from the original broadcasts).

Cavemen - 2007, 1 season, 12 episodes, comedy. The cavemen from the Geico commercials in a sitcom. Good quality copies exist.

Code Name Eternity - 2000, 1 season, 26 episodes, drama. Canadian SciFi show about an alien stranded on Earth, fighting against evil aliens. Edited copies from SciFi exist.

Werewolf - 1987, 1 season, 29 episodes, drama. Half hour show about a man bitten by a werewolf and his quest to find the origin of the bloodline and break the curse. Good quality copies exist, recorded off Chiller, but may be edited.

I'm sure I could come up with more...
