That has to be the funniest line in the entire series.

Classic!

Obviously not meant to be directly funny, but they allowed Bate deliver the line with all his earnestness he could muster for the poor souls down South.

But the writers had to know the audience would enjoy that line and get a real kick out that referential moment with a satirical slant.

Well done.

You should never accidentally hurt someone`s feelings, it should be done with intent and purpose

At the time the north was booming and the south was grim as there was no work so the line was accurate 200 years later things have changed
