Monday Mornings BOMBS in ratings and review (LINK)

All you doubters will see I was right that Rhames is not believable as a doctor. But I readily agree this show has much bigger problems than that. Most all the characters are boring and the storylines even worse! The ratings for the season finale was a .3 which makes it one of the lowest rated shows on Monday and for the week!

“Monday Mornings” gives us yet another reason to hate Monday mornings. It has been a particularly tough year for medical dramas. ABC closed the doors on “Private Practice” after six seasons, and the critical panning and quick cancellations of FOX’s “The Mob Doctor,” the CW’s “Emily Owens, M.D.” and NBC’s “Do No Harm” (which was cancelled this week after only two episodes) have jeopardized this fan-favorite genre. TNT hoped that a new year and its new series, “Monday Mornings,” could give the genre a much-needed reinvigoration. They couldn’t have been more wrong.

“Monday Mornings” is a snooze-fest and lacks almost every aspect that has propelled shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “House” to become hits. The first hour of the series leaves viewers with one resounding feeling: indifference. Viewers will recognize that not only has the show been done before, but it’s been done much better than this. Is “Monday Mornings” the worst show on television? No. However, it is a complete waste of time.

Though there's nothing special about the script, what really drags “Monday Mornings” down are its insufferable characters, not one of which is likeable. Molina’s Dr. Hooten is as sadistic a chief of staff as his Monday morning meetings. Ving Rhames (“Mission: Impossible”) could not be less believable as Dr. Jorge Villanueva, the morally sound surgeon with a tough exterior. Dr. Napur (Sarayu Rao, “NCIS: Los Angeles”) gives new meaning to the word annoying, while Dr. Park (Keong Sim, “Glee”) is written so stereotypically that the character is borderline racist. Likewise, the lead of the show, Jamie Bamber (“Battlestar Galactica”), does nothing special as Dr. Tyler Wilson.

Ghost, you fool you are thoroughly OWNED like usual!

reply

megafool,

I should actually ignore you, but you are too fun to slap around.

One reviewer does not make me owned, in fact no review could make me owned.
Time and time again you have shown to not have a the intellect to understand TV or the real world. This just shows you again. And you could not own me if you tried. The fool is you.

BTW, reviewers are NOT relevant. Note there were comments that both agreed and disagreed with the reviewer. But more importantly, you talking about a fourth tier reviewer in a third tier paper. Not exactly a valid source for comment.

You are ignoring reality ghost FOOL! Not only Rhames is not believable you have NO idea how TV works! You said all you need is one example which shows how ignorant and BRAINLESS you are!

TV is about appealing to the masses not one exception to the rule! Obviously the public isn't buying this show since it has among the lowest ratings of ALL shows during the week FOOL even for the season (and likely series) finale!

YOU are the one who is being slapped around like I ALWAYS do you ignorant MORON!

reply

Since there are many people who find Rhames believable you are proven wrong.
You said that a person like Rhames would NEVER be a doctor. I proved you wrong. Only one example is needed to prove that claim wrong. I know far more about TV than you do.

I never said that the show would not be cancelled. What I said was that Rhames being cast is not likely to be the reason. The writing and the fact that the show is a bit high-minded as well as the, at times, foolishness and overblown drama of the M&M conferences are more likely the reasons the show is failing. Even I find that part of the show painful to watch.

I never said the show appeals to the masses.

You could not slap around a paper doll. I have proven you wrong about every assertion you have made. And you having to back-pedal on what you meant proves that.

What you fail to get is that I do not care if the show is cancelled or not. It is not big deal and not that important. And even if it is not cancelled there is a real chance that I will not choose to watch it again. It is just TV.

The real entertainment is your posts. I am using them in a graduate level class that I was asked to guest lecture for and the grad students are laughing themselves silly reading you. You have become what one of them calls "the internet clown of the semester". Thank you for that. You just won me a steak and wine dinner from a fellow faculty member. I just have to make sure he does not spend too much. He is a junior faculty member and his wife just had twins.

Now that the semester is winding down, we are done. I want to thank you for the gifts you helped me receive. The bottle of 30yo Balvenie Single Malt Scotch (from the students and the class professor) that my lady and I will enjoy (I promise to make a toast to you and enjoy the laughter you have given us all) and the stuffed donkey dog toy that two of the students bought and put your name on should provide our dog with hours of fun. Maybe you can provide me with another class example in the future, assuming I decide to guest lecture on a relevant subject.

Once again, bye and thanks for the fun and profit.

WRONG ghost! As usual you are misinformed! The masses do NOT find Rhames credible as a doctor or find this show enjoyable!

If you know anything about TV that is what matters! It's not about single individuals on this board who are ok with Rhames but the masses aren't fools! Which is the more appropriate casting for Rhames? A boxer or a doctor?

The public knows it's a boxer! A FOOL like you doesn't!

I just came here for the first time today and saw your post mega. I don't think you are giving your point of view, you are here to excoriate this show and anyone who watches and likes it. Your name calling is definitely not necessary. You are what is referred to here as a troll. That is a person who hops from one board to the other saying the same negative things (one example). One comment like that is enough. You shouldn't have anything more to say once you have stated your dislike. Mark your review on the front page and I think TPTB will get the message. TPTB will also use ratings as a cue to whether this show is doomed or bound for at least another season. David E Kelley is not known for being associated with shows that aren't good.

I'm only agreeing with both the author of the Michigan Daily and Canada articles! If you fools don't like freedom of speech move to North Korea! YOU are the troll for calling someone a troll for simply disagreeing with you!

Rhames is not credible. Find me ONE surgeon who threatens to break a patient's jaw like Rhames did. No REAL doctor would ever do that!

But I readily agree this show has worse problems. Most storylines were awful and Molina was horrible and even most on here found him annoying. He is gone either way and so is this show most likely.

It's a shame people have no taste. I've found this to be a nice change from shows like House(which I loved), Grey's Anatomy(yawn) and Private Practice(crap).

I found Ving Rhames to be quite good on the show. I've seen doctors like him. You go to a place like Mayo in Rochester and you get all types. And I mean all. I saw Doctors there that fit pretty much every character on this show.

Watching this show each week is one of the things I look forward to. Shame due to close minded people that just want tons of sex and witty, awkward circumstances can't appreciate good TV and good writing.

Thank you Dr. Gupta, and thank you David E. Kelley, I enjoyed your show.

reply

taste is up to the viewer; not wrong, just different. i love Dallas, but when Monday Mornings comes on i have to turn over to Hawaii 5-0. i've given Monday Mornings a try. what i came away with was characters i could not care less about and writing that bored me to death.

i'm an intelligent college student (Stanford) and i do not "just want tons of sex ..." i want a storyline that is intersting and holds my attention. nothing in the three times i've watched Monday Mornings accomplished that. essentially, it's three hours of life i will never get back.

reply

Good points Kassandra. Like I said it doesn't do anything that any other medical drama has done before! And many of those medical dramas have been cancelled!

reply

For the life of me I never understand why people make it their life's work to scream from the highest tower that a show sucks. Was something on TNT cancelled that you loved? Monday Mornings is an excellent show. Dont like it? Dont watch it. I dont need people with pitch forks and torches chasing me to prove they dont like something. That's why there are 500 channels to choose from.

reply

This is a DISCUSSION board and we have the right to state our opinion. If you don't like it move to North Korea.

reply

This show actually hits some of the painful areas of medicine in this country unlike grey's anatomy where it's stereotypical situations and everyone all ends happy regardless of the real life consequences

reply

That is a good part of why I liked this show so much more than Grey's Anatomy. It just feels a bit more real to me.

reply

I found Rhames very believable and I know a couple of damn good doctors with his attitude and outlook.

And yes, this is a discussion board and people have a right to express their opinion, but when you personally attack someone because they disagree you step over the opinion line and lower your own credibility, not theirs.

It is 2015 and I am still kinda in shock that a show I enjoyed so much could be so dismissed by so many. Perhaps it was the lack of likable characters? Certainly I could care less about that. The older I get the more I realize just how different I am from my fellow americans.
