relationship between Elizaabeth and Lota

I am a married heterosexual who completely supports homosexual attachments as having as much value and rights as heterosexual ones. But I noticed in this relationship Lota and Elizabeth seemed to play out the kind of tensions and conflicts typical in heterosexual couples, with Lota behaving often like a "typical man" as women like to put it. E.g., where Lota is so devoted to her professional project she leaves Elizabeth alone on her birthday, breaking her promise and Elizabeth's heart. The way she just assumes that of course, Elizabeth should stay and "handle things" on the estate when told to do so, giving up her chance to teach at NYU for a semester. etc. It all could have played out just that way in a heterosexual relationship.
It reminds me of the French film Le Cage Aux Folles, in the scene where the nightclub performer is weepily and bitterly chastising his manager/husband for his insensitivity and neglect. The script could be transposed word for word from a million such conversations between heterosexual couples.

Congratulations on discovering gay couples aren't so different from straight ones!
