Good, mostly bad

ATTENTION - Read with caution, spoilers in present text!

First off, I have to say, that I, like most other people, was lured in by the title! Anything that has to do with asylums, in horror movies, automatically peaks my interest, I find it intriguing. After watching the first 30 minutes, I thought to myself, "Great, finally a decent horror movie!" - but as the story moved on, it got gradually worse. The acting wasn't as bad as I've seen it in other similar movies, but it was by no stretch of the imagination, good.

The plot was fairly unoriginal, nothing we haven't seen before: House or facility, built on a sacred burial ground, or in this case, on the grounds of a haunted house. I liked the leading female role, she did OK for an unknown actress, and she is quite stunning as well. The stereotypical Polish guy she was working with, was not that interesting, his whole "I want to leave my past behind me, I've done some bad things, stay out of my business" deal, didn't interest me at all, and apparently, neither did it the movie.

In my case, it would have improved the movie, if they played on the psychological earlier on. Trying to convince her, that she was in actuality instituted there, was quite interesting, but it could definitely have been done better, and it was over in an instant. I do not know if the Doctor played his role extremely bad, or extremely well, because suspicion arose immediately, and I was entirely sure, that he was behind it all, right from the moment I saw him.

A brilliant support role, in my opinion, was Sadie, the also instituted woman, with the paranormal vibe. She actually played her role extremely well, and I was the most unnerved, whenever the lead actress approached her cell, and whenever the two would engage in conversation, I would sit in ill anticipation, waiting for a jumpscare.

Delaney's death was a bit awkward; him dying in her lap, her saying "Please, don't leave me", as if they were romantically engaged, or had known each other for the longest time; I don't know if it is just me, or if anyone else felt the same way. The guy took forever to die as well, I mean, comeon already.

One thing that really bothered me, throughout the movie, was, whenever the leading actress discovered something important to the story, a short "clue" sound would play, it annoyed me to no end, and I could not take it seriously. I know that it is edited in to make it mystifying and spooky, but it has no place in an actual horror movie.

I might have missed out on this, but I am not sure if it was ever disclosed, who Mr. X was, the guy who supposedly overpowered 6 orderlies, I would have liked to know.

Also, the Cannibal, I found his character quite humorous, especially the "I was wondering, if it was possible to receive medical attention"

It was worth a watch, but it is not worthy of more, than a 4/10
