Pick your friend: Caroline or Gillian

Both women are interesting, both attractive, both flawed.

Which would you rather spend time with as a good friend?

My choice would be Gillian. She's arguably more of a mess (although Caroline might just be less visibly so!) but I find her more emotionally honest and generous. I like her life energy, her spunk, her determination to keep going, and her independence on the farm.

Caroline puts on false faces more easily and more often. I think ultimately I'd keep her at an arm's length for lack of trust.

You?

Nothing to see here, move along.

Completely agree. I would also pick Gillian.

Great question, butaneggbert.

I agree that both Caroline and Gillian are interesting, attractive and flawed. But as for who I would rather spend time with as a "good" friend, it would have to be: Caroline.

Her flaws are easier to bear. And besides, the woman's got great taste.

Gillian can be quite...spiteful actually. The way she talked about Caroline and Celia to Raff and Robbie behind their backs makes me weary for anyone to be "good" friends with her. She was upset and therefore (naturally), she'd be defensive; but I can't see her being a "good" friend to me in that case. What if we had falling out? She'd be talking *beep* behind my back for sure!
Also, the way she behaved at the Registry Office (especially towards her dad with the things she said later about Celia) would be too much for me if I were her friend.
She also has a predilection for lying quite readily, making her a bit untrustworthy IMO.

But, as far as characters go, I do like Gillian much more because she is so flawed and therefore more human than anyone else on the show.

I love both characters but in real life, I'd say Caroline's unfortunate habit of keeping people at arm's length (thanks to her mother's brand of "love"), probably would make it hard to be friends with her, or at least to become friends with her. She's become a friend to Gillian, I think, and she seems to be a good one but getting that close would take more time than I could give.

reply

Neither. Both have too much drama in their lives.

reply

Caroline I think. Gillian is too "down" all the time for me. I would rather be upbeat.
