Problem With Nicola Walker

I have seen Series 1-3 of Last Tango In Halifax and I enjoy it mainly because of Sarah Lancashire, a very good actress and really good in this.

Problem I have with Gilliam isn't because she is downright nasty at times and is a mess etc but the actress is the same in every show I have seen with her, such as Spooks and other shows, whereas if you compare Sarah Lancashire in Last Tango In Paris to other roles such as Coronation Street, The Paradise and Happy Valley, she is different in everything.

I just think Nicola Walker is the same in most things.

I too have a problem with Gillian, Xfiles. I'm a bit disappointed in the character by the series 3 end to be honest.

I haven't seen Ms Lancashire in anything else before so I can't say much on that other than I'm looking forward to starting "Happy Valley" soon.

I have seen Nicola Walker in that one episode from series 1 of "Luther" (which I watched after LTIH) and you are right; she played a similar character as Gillian in that as well.

But, I have seen her in "A View from the Bridge", the Broadway/West End play with Mark Strong and she was different in that but really good nonetheless. She has won the prestigious Olivier award (best supporting actress) for another play, "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time".

I didn't mind seeing her repeat the "Gillian" bit so to speak; I love Nicola and think she's fantastic.

I have issues with all the characters except Alan, really, but it's on the writers, not the actors. It seems Wainwright quite enjoys flawed characters (and I love them usually) but is unable to strike a balance between flaws and qualities, for the sake of drama, which tends to make them more unlikable in the long run than anything else.

I have to disagree about Nicola Walker though. I'm not sure what you've seen her in and I haven't seen Spooks but if you check out her arc in Scott & Bailey, and it doesn't change your mind, then I'm sorry to say your bias against the character may have permeated your objectivity about the actress :P

Also try River, it'll change your mind, I promise. Not only is the character miles away from Gillian but Nicola's amazing in it.
