The Flying Stars

Second episode and still off the tracks as far as the story goes, why do they do that?
No, no, no, no!
set at christmas, no sight of Flambeau, throw in a murder, have a live english Valentine around

all the spark and enthusiasm has been squeezed out of the story.

good to have the quote about chimneys and soot made

2/10 for this one, wrong story, wrong culprit, wrong ending.

Come on, are we watching the same episode?

I'll admit I never read the book or watch any previous adaptation but the "Flying Star" episode of the TV series has nothing to do with christmas at all (I'm going with what you've wrote here). It was Ruby's (the daughter) birthday and they were holding a gathering for a play.

You should know by now that movie/TV series adaptation from a book is rarely identical, they have to change it to accomodate a new media. Look at Harry Potter for example, I read the book and I know they cut/change a lot of scenes but the movie is enjoyable nonetheless.

Maybe you should just try to appreciate it as it is: a new adaptation of a story, or better yet, a new story altogether.I'm sure you'll enjoy it more that way.

the harry potter movies aren't bad, ok they need to be cut to fit into 2 hrs, but most of the crucial parts are present.
ok let me be fairer,
jewelry - check
stage show - check
communist - check
and that was about it, apart from that, this was a new story, new motives, a murder, a different thief, death of the thief.
anyway, you will be getting a new story altogether with the man in a tree, because I can't for the life of me remember a story with a man in a tree.

i'm just an old fuddy ruddy, Charles dickens christmas carol isn't complete or correct unless the boy at the end says 'Walker!' :-)

but you have to admit that recently the poirot version with David Suchet, have been much better, surely we should be going for that style of Television, not going back to the bad old days, look at the wonderful first two series of the Granada version of Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett, how faithful to the original stories and then look what happened in later episodes, I know the reasons, but still....
