The police officer is too stupid.

I've started watching series 5, and I'm increasingly bothered by how stupid the ott lead police officer is (I forget his name.)

I get that it's a running theme that one or more of the police are idiots, and that the sleuth has to work it out. But, god, the police officer in this is so stupid.

I feel like the episodes are basically like this:

*Cop sees dead man on the floor outside a house with a ladder beside him*

Cop: well clearly he fell from the ladder after trying to clean his roof.

Father Brown: But this isn't actually his house. Also there's a bullet hole in his head.

*Police guy looks around and sees a gardener watching.

Cop: well clearly it was that man!

*Promptly arrests innocent bystander and Father Brown has to discover the real murderer before some innocent is hanged.*

I love father brown but cannot stand the policeman especially the way he says padray all the time he completely overacts

Yeah, him over enunciating odd words in his sentences don't help.

There are some scenes were he tones it down so I think he is able to act.

Generally the acting on the show by the non main characters isn't great. Surprising, considering it's the BBC.

I actually like the rather slimy inspector with his padres. A common expression attributed to the military clergy.

It's that man again!!

He is the only terrible character in the show. I hope they get rid of him fast.

LOL - also:
Police detective does not seal off the crime scene or place a guard on it, allowing Father Brown and any number of other civilians access to rummage through it at will for evidence - something that the police detective never seems to do himself.
