This was an American attempt at

European Art Cinema without understanding its roots or heritage.

Some sort of "Into the Darkness" in snow with the absent father, gone insane in the wilderness playing Marlon Brando's character in Apocalypse Now references to the same book.

The "unconventional" narrative didn't add anything to the story or its impact. It was as if it was cut out of too many incomplete bad rushes that couldn't fit anywhere else. The final product was like the kind of bad modern poetry that unfortunately give the traditionalists the weapon to criticize lack rhymes in general.

The savagery was overplayed; e.g. using knife when gun would have been the obvious and the logical choice for the character or too many impromptu killings even within the context of this film.

Off course the modern twist or the "moral of the story" were parallels made between the primal savagery of those living outside the Law in wilderness and then newly created greedy bankers that are still with us.

It could have been a decent film had its maker been less pretentious and had more of a real style.

The photography was the best aspect of it but still not good enough to make up for an all in all an immature effort.

Wow. You just gave it 10,000x too much credit. Doesn't even deserve a message board response. Hope you wrote that for something to do with school and just pasted it in here.
