words cannot even express how awful this movie is

oh my god take me now jesus i am ready

reply

is it that bad ??

reply

It's not that bad but it isn't that good either.

reply

from the dvd cover is says that it is step up meets ghetto gangstaz

reply

I was assuming like most of these kind of movies that the acting would suck because they were using real Parkour types. Sadly it wasnt even that. Obvious body doubling in too many shots.

reply

The best part of this movie is the end credits, where it shows legitimate parkour people doing what they do.

reply

I disagree. Mind you, I am only about a half hour in.

Decent cast that I instantly recognized...William Moselely, Eric Roberts, Adrian Pasdar, Kelsey Chow.

Cool dubstep soundtrack.

Great Parkour.

Good plot and good acting.

Overall, a good movie. I am watching it on Netflix, but I will probably buy it too.

reply

yeah i have too agree....looks god awful !
could there possibly be an audience for this...
I'm guessing middle schoolers ??? maybe not even that...

reply

No it's not that bad. It delivers on what it promises, a lot of impressive stunts. It goes downhill in the last half hour when it tries to have too much plot.

Not as good as Barrio 13, but really a decent, low-budget effort.

reply

I agree, this movie was godawful. Everything was hackneyed and riddled with clichés.

Even the parkour wasn't even that great. I can Youtube compilations of way more impressive stunts. In fact if that's all you wanted to see, you're better of just doing that. If I'm watching a movie, i'm gonna be expecting a decent movie. Not a watered down, fourth-rate gangster story with some parkour here and there.

Even though it wasn't that great either, District 13 is way superior to this. May be unfair seeing it's a higher budgeted movie vs this little indie one, but at least the story in Distract 13 was mildly more entertaining.

Stuff like this reminds me of "Movie Poop Shoot.com" from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

This just looks terrible. To whomever said "Good plot and good acting." must not have seen the trailer. I mean I know people shouldnt judge a movie by a trailer but wow...just wow. Heres a great quote "Your the paint brush and this is your canvas."...yeah. The stunts might be good but I highly doubt the plot is good. It seems like your standard bad guy using high school kids to do bad things until they decide to fight back. I mean I could be wrong, since I havent seen the film, so please someone do correct me if I am.

The movie is about a Father and Son team of burglers. The father walks with limp and stakes out the location, the son uses Parkour to scale and enter the building.

The Dad has history with mobsters in New York and after years of avoiding the city decides he needs to face his demons. The son gets involved with kids in school who run a parkour club, and goes through growing pains between loyalty to his Dad and wanting his new friends to trust him.

Not sure why I'm defending this movie so much. But I feel it shouldn't be written off as worthless. I watched this for the stunts, they were pretty good, and the storyline wasn't awful. There are MUCH worse movies out there.

reply

Agreed, that other poster was way off on their guess as to what the plot is. I mean did they really think we were all sitting around wondering what they thought the movie could possibly be about?

And it wasnt a great movie no, but half the stuff that comes out to theaters is as good, or even worse...

reply

Come on guys, there is no way you are defending this film by saying that there are worst films out there. Thats like saying Ted Bundy only killed between 26 and 40 people while Andrei Chikatilo killed 53 to 56. A serial killer is a serial killer and a bad film is a bad film. And yes, I guessed at the plot, thank you for clearing it up for me. But from what you guys wrote on here, it still sucks. Save $10 and go on youtube and watch parkour videos.

reply

$10? I pay less than that for netflix streaming where I saw it. Comes out to a few cents per movie, so your way off (again! maybe time to stop assuming). Also your analogy is terrible. Yes a murderer is a murderer, but is someone speeding as evil as a killer, they both broke the law right? No, of course not, there is a vast chasm between the two.

By your logic there's no scoring of any kind to films, it's either good or bad. Everything is an A or an F, can you imagine if schools were like that and the 4.0 student got the same GPA as a C- student because it was only pass/fail? Nothing this subjective is black and white like that, maybe that's why you can't understand there are shades of grey to the quality of films...

reply

Haha oh sorry I should have known this is straight to DVD/streaming. Well that changes everything. And I think my analogy is a pretty good one. You cant compare murder to speeding in the same way that you can compare this terrible film with another terrible film. You cant say oh this is a good film because there is so much crap films out there.

And I understand scoring, its all really subjective like any other art. I would never rate a film as a 'pass' or 'fail' only. Im sure this film has some interesting things to offer, maybe some great stunts, maybe a great stand out performance from one of the actors. But that still wont make it a great film, hell it probably wont even make a decent film. At least not to me.

For example, in my opinion one of the best action films in the past 5 years has to be The Raid. Now some people might disagree, some people might not like that its foreign, that its to violent, that they dont have enough special FX, that they use to many hand held shots, the acting isnt up to par with other films and so on.

Back to my original argument, you cant say this is a good film because we have so many other worst films out there. You are right, we have many different shades of grey, and this one is leaning towards the 'bad' shade of grey. ;)

reply

Good points, but it appears we were speaking at a crossroads right from the start! I wasn't saying this is a good film all around because there are worse movies out there, just that it's better than you were giving it credit for.

And the fact I paid pennies to see it instead of $10 changes everything, I agree! Expectations are lower when your just turning something on at the end of the night to relax to, than if you get ready beforehand, gas up the car, drive to the theater, etc.

So yes, this is not a great film in general, I agree. But when you've seen some of the other stuff out that's even worse, this (comparatively) becomes better. Also as a fan of parkour, i'm always in favor of seeing more of it on screen.

Also I LOVED the raid, one of the best action movies possibly ever made, can't wait for the sequel to reach our shores in the US...

reply

Well im sure ill end up seeing it one night when I dont have anything else to watch. Who knows, I might actually be pleasantly surprised. And yes I cant wait till the end of the month for the squeal! Im just disappointed that its limited for the first few days and than will go nation wide. Oh well, if it leaks online I might just watch it and than go and see it in theaters when it comes out in my area.

reply

What about Tony Jaa and his movies? You a fan I assume?

I enjoyed Ong-bak, took a friend of mine to it and he was in awe of what was on screen. I also liked The Protector, but after that it all went down hill for me with the sequels. The Protector 2 used so much CGI it was disgusting! I was really disappointing at least IMO.
