Why did Reba drop her last name in the titles?

I was wondering why is that Reba dropped her last name from the opening title and just goes by Reba.

reply

Because she's full of herself, that's why. She thinks she's so famous now that anyone who hears the name Reba automatically thinks of her. She wants to be like Cher and Madonna.....but the difference is that Cher and Madonna have always gone by their first names....honestly, this woman is so egotistical its ridiculous.

reply

Well, to be honest, when I hear the name Reba I do think of her first even though I have a great-aunt named Reba.

gapeach1004,
Same here. I always liked "Reba" and this is just more of her with a different cast. Actually, I didn't even notice she dropped her last name.

Take a chance, flip a coin, everything is 50/50

What other Reba do you know?

Not being sarcastic, just curious. I can't think of any other famous Reba...

reply

I've never come across a 'Reba' in real life. So when I hear the name, it's red hair & signing that comes to mind aka Reba.

reply

Cause she's better than you. Duh.

reply

Sorry, no one is better than anyone else. I agree with the other poster. Reba MCENTIRE should be proud of her last name. Its just evidence of her ruthlessness and her gargantuan ego which knows no bounds. Plus, this show, "Malibu Country" is such a poor imitation of her original sitcom (which wasn't that good either, by the way). These shows are NOT funny. MCENTIRE needs to stick to singing....I would rather hear her recordings....not make a fool of herself in the wasteland of TV with her annoying mannerisms.

"Egotistical?" "Full of herself?" *LOL* When you have a distinctive name shared by no one else in the entertainment/acting/singing biz, and it stands well enough on its own, you CAN go by a single name. It says nothing about your personality, and doesn't imply that you lack pride in your surname. It's just a nice, quick, simple, one-word ID, likely encouraged by agents. As soon as you hear "Reba," there's only one person who comes to mind, unless you happen to know a Reba personally--but obviously that isn't the one to whom most other people would be referring. I love Reba as both a singer and an actress.

Well, on her Twitter, she calls herself a Country Superstar, so she (or her PR people) are either completely un-self aware, or she's a little bit egotistical.

reply

Well, I definitely consider her a country superstar...and while it might sound egotistical to call yourself a superstar, I think that kind of line is put on celebrities' Twitters to identify them and let people know that it really is them, and not someone else using their names. For someone of her caliber I think "superstar" or "star" is more appropriate than just "singer/performer." Or, as you said, it very well could be her PR people.
