Great idea to abandon this for Alex Cross and other projects

Needs to change it up. He'll take over the role from Morgan Freeman (who was the star of the previous 2 films). Nice to see him in a cameo in Star Trek. He should continue to expand beyond the Madea universe into other projects...wondering if him and Lee Daniels would collaborate on something soon.

I agree completely. I'm actually pretty excited to see him in an action/suspense film.

Agreed.

I hope she dies soon, it's too much. Not that I care too much about his films, but I did consider Madea somewhat entertaining, but seeing the character in so many films in such a short period doing the same predictable stuff is just not good. James Bond would have died out decades ago if they did a new one every year.

I do think that it would be nice if Tyler Perry branched out into more studio films like he did with his cameo as Admiral Barnett in Star Trek and Alex Cross.

As long as the "Madea" character stays funny and remains profitable, then I can't foresee Perry killing her off any time soon.
When I went to see "Madea's Witness Protection" the entire (and very diverse) audience was cracking up every two minutes, practically. I think it was one of his funniest movies..."Madea's Big Happy Family", eh, not so much at all.

I think what Perry should do is ease up on the melodrama and concentrate more on the comedy side in the Madea movies.

I like the Madea series but I agree that it will be a cool change of pace to see Perry play a straight action/drama role in "Alex Cross".

I'm a big mystery & suspense fan--I read a great deal of it and I'm a writer and suspense & thrillers are a few of the genres I write in. So, I am now REALLY interested in the "Alex Cross" series by James Patterson--I'm going to read one of his books, Mary, Mary, soon. Excited!

Perhaps if Perry's movie takes off, it'll be turned into a franchise. That would be very interesting to see.

The Alex Cross books can easily become a franchise. Two of them have already been filmed with Morgan Freeman, but when I saw the trailer for the upcoming one with Tyler Perry, I thought he would be terrific as Alex Cross and am so glad he's picking up where Morgan Freeman left off!

The Cross books are intense. I have read all of them just about as soon as they've hit the bookstores. If the franchise expands to film more of the books, I think Perry will have his hands full just filming those. I can't wait to see the new one coming out.

Very cool! It could be Perry's equivalent to the "Bourne" series, maybe even more interesting.

I know the summary to Mary, Mary sounds INTENSE: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/84736.Mary_Mary

If they do another Alex Cross film with Perry, I'd like to see him in an adaptation of this one!

I'm very interested in seeing how Perry will perform with a different director (well, other than himself), and how he'll bring to life the characterization. Morgan Freeman was great as Cross in his two films, so he'll have big shoes to fill!
