people think this looks bad but not Magic Mike?

I can't see how people could hate on this when you have REAL crap like Magic Mike being released.
Hope Madea kicks Mike's ass. Madea provides laughs, MM looks like it won't provide anything.

Magic Mike will make more money and has had better reviews. Plus it's directed by an acclaimed director and at least is something different. These Madea movies are the same over and over again...it's pretty much another Big Momma's House.

Magic Mike will open around 40 mill, while Madea will open a strong 25 Mill but then a quick drop off like usual

Early Box Office Reports:

#2. Magic Mike - $43m
#3. Brave - $35.5m
#4. Madea - $26m
#5. Madagascar 3 - $14.5m

WA WA WA WA WA!!!

^^ Uh, those numbers don't look accurate at all. 50 mil for Ted for one day only? Doubtful. Even 50 for the entire weekend doesn't sound right. Care to post a link to your source??...I think Magic Mike (the naked white boys lol) and Madea are both doing pretty well. I saw both and liked both for different reasons of course. I wanted to see some skin in one, and I wanted to then see a well developed story and laugh. I'm a happy customer!! : )

reply

Those are approximately right numbers for the weekend. Ted should end the weekend with around 50 Mill+

"I wanted to see some skin in one, and I wanted to then see a well developed story and laugh." --That describes Magic Mike, what about Madea?

reply

^^Do you have a link for the movie projections??...I liked Madea. It was way better than Tower Heist or the other comedies that I went out and saw b/c I wanted to laugh. It's okay if you didn't like it or thought it wasn't a good story. Different folks different strokes.

Just look at the main imdb page or boxoffice or boxofficemojo or thenumbers.com, etc, etc. It's not hard to find, most of them have articles and numbers on how Ted and Magic Mike were smash hits this weekend

reply

So um yes, I know that they are all doing well. I think I acknowledged this in my original post. I saw that box office mojo has numbers for Friday only. I wanted to know where you two saw projections that said Ted would make $50 mill this weekend since Ted and MM are pretty much tied at $20 mill. I don't think Fridays numbers necessarily mean that Ted will more than double by Sunday. I could be wrong though, so that's why I asked for the source.

reply

This is the real crap... I mean, come on.

I will see you back here again in about 10 months or so when Tyler releases yet another Madea movie, same exact movie, slightly different plot.

reply

Again, look at the imdb page, or others. It's right there. Ted earned approx 54 million while Magic Mike earned just under 40 mill.

^^Nathan I don't understand you replying directly to me to try to insult me for asking a valid question. There was no information in regards to "projections" on any of those websites on Saturday morning. There was only one article briefly reviewing all the opening movies on box office mojo. IMDB and the others had nothing at all. There was only info on the success of Friday's numbers. I then googled it for about 5 mins to find other sources, but didn't find anything. I checked this before my first post questioning the data. The second poster, Stazzercise, did not respond until late Sunday night. Well of course all the numbers are available after the fact. So it was like oh gee thanks for the obvious info after it has already been reported.

As for you labeling me a Madea fan, I've seen two Madea movies that I liked. I guess maybe that does make me a fan. If you click on my user name you will see that I like all kinds of movies, but go ahead and label me a Madea fan if you like. As for you calling me dumb and retarded, think whatever you want. You know nothing about me. I don't value your opinion anyway since you don't seem to have anything to add to the discussion other than hurling insults.

You have been posting tons of comments on Tyler Perry and the MSG boards for his movies since early February. That's just odd to me. It seems obsessive. Why spend so much energy on something that you have disdain for? Why not state your opinion on the movies that you don't like and then move on to spending your time discussing the movies and actors that you do like. I guess I'm just different.

Nathan-
So uh yea. I have never seen your user name around probably b/c I don't really post on TP or his movie boards. I clicked on your user name b/c I was curious as to what types of films you do enjoy. It was just weird that almost all of your posts were on TP. No matter how much time you have on your hands you're still spending a whole lot of energy on IMDB discussing TP, and not your actual interests. It's not an analysis. It's just common sense.

You're either obsessed with TP and have serious issues with his success, you're a troll, or (judging by your last post) you're just extremely immature and ignorant. I respect other people's view points, their right to freedom of speech, and their right to utilize the MSG boards. But, I try not to engage Trolls, childish, and plain ignorant individuals. It's a complete waste of my time. I didn't realize that you were one of these types, but I do now. So I'm done. Enjoy your six figures and cush life and all. Good day.

Magic Mike was a pretty decent film.

reply

Mike and Ted killed Madea. Hopefully, mercifully this franchise will end.

Good luck on Alex Cross, Tyler. I hope it explodes at the box office, change it up, my brother.

Also, Ted has the highest opening for an original R-Rated Comedy.

reply

Unlike most people on this board I could care less about the skin color of the actors I just know I much rather watch the hot mostly naked ones over the one obsessed with dressing in drag. Not to mention it's been done so many times already....

MM looks like it won't provide anything.
When you make a comment like that, how are you any different from the people who judge Madea movies without having seen them? I saw both Madea and MM on Friday, and MM made me laugh a lot, while Madea hardly at all. I'm not a Madea fan. I've never found her (him) funny at all and I think TP's acting (either as a male or female), isn't all that. I however saw the trailers for this movie and thought it would be different and actually be funny. My Mom's a HUGE fan of Madea, so I took her for a double feature. She enjoyed both movies immensely, while I only enjoyed MM. The laughs I got from Madea, where the same ones I got from the trailers. A real let down, but at least my Mom was happy.

I was bored with Madea after the Madea's Family Reunion movie. My son wants to see this flick and being that he's 13 now thank goodness I dont have to take him.

Speaking on TP's drama's (Why Did I.., Family That Preys...Good Deeds, etc.) I gotta admit they're getting repetitive. It's always focused on some poor down-on-her-luck single woman or a woman going through the motions with a no-good man, cheating or druggy husband. Later they find Jesus, go to church and shout, and live happily ever after.

Good Deeds, his latest drama...I seen how the plot was laid and could guess the ending, which I was right. There's something for everybody and there will be people who will continue to see Madea again and again and that's fine but it just won't be me.

'Life my a$$ motha flucka, this is a bidness.'

i think a sequel of Magic Mike or a T.V. deal is already in place. Madea is windiig down. its repetitive, but it works because he keeps the salary down, production cost down, etc. - often times the biggest budget with expanded casts end up being box office poison.
