A low rating for this movie is proof that...

...Affirmative action was necessary. Why is that? Well, we have a movie that has a low rating because Tyler Perry produced it. Not because it deserved a low rating, but because of racism. If Tyler Perry was white...

Believe me, white people wouldn't like this if Tyler Perry were white.
We just don't think that he is funny. Plus the Madea movies are overdone.
Difference senses of humor, I guess.

^^Who is "We"? I hope you don't mean all white people. Tons of white, black, and hispanic people like Madea. Have you read the threads of people reporting the demographics for their theaters? My theater was huge w/white and hispanic people laughing the loudest. Just say you don't think he's funny. Don't say "We".

reply

Never said all white people. My theater was balance too. But there are people (mainly whites) that's judging a movie content on a person's race rather than actually watching the movie.

^^Quin- If you hit nest you will see that I was not responding to you. I was not able to make the connection about Affirmative Action being needed in regards to Tyler Perry and Madea movies. I didn't quite understand your theory or the point you were trying to make. You lost me, so I did not respond to you. My reply was to LilAngel. LilAngel used the word, We.

I understand the point you are making in your second post. Maybe some white people are judging movies based off the color of the cast, and not the movie itself. Only a lot of black people don't care for Madea either. Some of them have said that they feel like the Madea movies and plays are ministerial shows/buffoonery. I know that there are a few trolls on this board making comments about race, but I think it's more about different people's tastes in movies rather than race. I think it's the concept of the movie that's the deciding factor for most people, not race. I admit I didn't like the Madea concept at first either(don't like Big Mama House or Mrs Doubtfire either). She seemed to be based off a lot of corny gag jokes. But, TP has more experience now. It seems that he has now figured out what does and doesn't work. I thought this movie was funny. I really enjoyed it!

reply

Actually Nicci you posted right under Quin, and judging by your reply, it did look like you were posting to him. I checked the nest and you did hit reply to his post.

reply

No, I did not. I specifically replied to LilAngel b/c I did not understand what Quin was saying initially. When I hit nest (as I just did again)my reply is connected right below LilAngel's. I don't know why yours is showing something different. I know that I did not respond to Quin. Plus my post is talking about white people not thinking Madea is funny. Which is what LilA was saying. I didn't even mention the low IMDB rating, the if TP were white scenario, or the affirmative action business that Quin was talking about in the OP. Anyway, I think Quin and I have an understanding and are on the same page now. Thanks.

reply

You're right. My bad. I looked at the nest wrong.

Am I on Tumblr or IMDB??
Chill, dude. We don't have to be politically correct all of the time. That's what sucks about this era.

reply

I think white or black, the most important audience (ones who go to the movies) he has lost and that is the young black person from age 15-30. They just dont think he is funny. In fact, white people get more humor out of this than the young blacks do.

reply

I thought it was funny, so did my mom.

or... maybe it just got a low rating because people are tired of seeing Tyler Perry dressed as a woman. I would think the same if they decided to make 3-4 sequels of Mrs. Doubtfire

Differences being Mrs. Doubtfire was done ONCE and it was actually good.

If Tyler Perry was white, he'd still be sh!t at making movies and people would still hate him. Hitler was white, and a lot of people hate him, so obviously it's not just a racial thing. I'm not saying that Perry is quite as bad as Hitler, but his movies certainly are akin to crimes against humanity...

Kill the noise about racism please! I AM A BLACK MAN! And I have tried and tried to comprehend the attraction that MANY Black people have to the PABLUM that this man puts on the screen!

Tyler Perry has a history of making bad movies especially the movies that involve Madea. Race plays a slight factor but there are plenty of black people (myself included) who are tired of his glorified minstrel shows constantly being distributed.

Once again, blacks cannot see beyond race. No matter what everything is about race with these people. Thank god Hispanics are now the largest minority in the US. At least they don't blame racism every time something goes wrong for them.

Of course because places like Arizona welcome Hispanics and Latinos with open arms.

Race will always be a major theme in US society. That's not changing anytime soon.

Ok this is getting ridiculous people...screw all the black/ white/ hispanic crap...its not about color not liking his movies...people either like him or they don't...

And please lets not try to bring in Ms. Doubtfire and Tyler Perry movies because the whole "If he was white it would be better or not" argument would not even hold up...Ms Doubtfire got a 6.7 and Diary of a Mad Black Woman got a 4.9...So please let's not say that 'he has been doing the Madea thing too many times and is why he gets low ratings' because the first movie he came out with received a 4.9 MINUS the sequels...

..Also it is not every movie he makes that has Madea in it, have we ever heard of Why did I get Marries? or Good Deeds...both received very low ratings and Madea was not present in either one...

He is a person who makes money based on what his audience wants...if his audience consisted solely of all blacks then so be it, but the race argument got thrown out the window once more races got mentioned in this post because obviously someone finds him funny other than blacks...

...Just a thought!

I'm black, and this film was probably his worst yet. I'm usually a fan of his work, but This and Temptation were horrible.
