No, she won't be replacing Thandie as some had hoped, but Genevieve Nnaji will have a substantial role in this movie. She'll play Ms Adebeyo, a professor who develops a flirtatious relationship with her colleague Mr Odenigbo, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor. This should be fun. Ejiofor is long overdue for a role as a sexy, romantic lead.
She is an amazing actress. She didn't necessarily need to replace Newton and I believe she will give a stellar performance. And having her and Chiwetel, two of my most favourite people in the world, share flirtatious screen moments in what's her first role in a well established production company and what's his first sexy, romantic lead role is quite fortunate :).
Amen to that, kele440. And because I liked your comments on the Ejiofor board so much, I'm taking the liberty of reproducing them here:-)
True, he played a Nigerian in DIRTY PRETTY THINGS but I believe HALF OF A YELLOW SUN might be a whole new delicate and perhaps, sensitive experience for him. Not only would he be portraying an Igbo character which is vital in capturing the unfolding events during the Biafran war; as I once read, same war the reason for his parents relocation to the UK. He probably have heard and read A LOT about the war. Moreso, this will be his first time of shooting a film in Nigeria and well, working with a Nigerian director-- too many first :).
