Ejiofor as a romantic lead!

Will this be the film that finally convinces Hollywood to cast him as the romantic lead in more mainstream box office fare?

(I am not discounting the wonderful British film industry, only noting the reality that Hollywood is where most of the money and jobs are.)

Am rather hoping this will be the film that earns him the much awaited Oscar nod. And infact, I think we should consider starting up a petition if he doesn't get, at least, an Oscar nomination for either this film (or TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE) upon its release next year :).

I'm so happy for Ejiofor. He deserves a romantic lead. Shoot, he deserves any lead! I hope McQueen get's the funding for Fela.

I agree with you, but a romantic lead would be especially meaningful since there are so few of them for black actors, which leaves the unfortunate impression that romance and romantic appeal is somehow a "white thing."

Is this a more mainstream film? I'm getting the impression that it's more of an indie flick. Is there any interest from bigger distributors?
