The dog was dirty ???

If the dog the little girl named Prince was dirty when they saw him at the pound then he also hadn't been checked by a vet and held for x number of days before being put up for adoption. It does give time for a stray's owner to find him. You can do a lost dog story without making such a goof.

Another goof even worse was Jake's owner asked a pound employee if he'd seen him. The guy said he'd been off a few weeks but didn't bother to check the records or with another employee to see what dogs had come & gone while he was off.
