Hi All, No offence but this movie is getting a bit over-rated here. Its a good movie but people are making it exceptional.

Because this film has excelled in all necessary departments, while still somehow doing great at the box office. Expecting too much from it is your fault, not the filmmaker's. He just tried to tell his story, and he did it beautifully.
its natural to keep expectations high after watching promos, songs, & so much hype it has created over the last few months which is why most knowledgeable cinema lovers would consider this good nothing beyond that.
another reason where i felt this was okay is this story was laid in the midst of real events which according to me was known to everyone already. The main story if you see is just a paint brush patch up between these events. i wish this movie was longer & we would have more time to connect to these characters better is the only suggestion i have.
Every film has promotion and hype around it, therefore basing your expectation on the marketing of a film is a drawback on your part, it won't let you enjoy the film.
Besides, your two critiques have nothing to do with the film. The story is based on a book, the book encompasses those 3 events, so it's pretty obvious the film's screenplay won't skip them.
If you thought the main story had only to do with the events, however, you missed the point.
PS. "most knowledgeable cinema lovers" have rated this film as extraordinary. Read up on some reviews.

shareRaghav, I don't think it is over-rated. From what I am reading, it is obvious that critics loved the film but it was not as if they were blind to certain aspects like the slightly over-long second half or the fact that at times, the film went a bit out of track.
For me, I loved the film. I don't think It would be wrong to call this film as one of the best this year. The narrative was quite credible, the acting was pretty strong and I liked the fact that the film was crisp and realistic.
Well, you are entitled to your opinion. But for me, Abhishek Kapoor's film was simply great.
It seems you are not into quality movies & don't know what's called excellent movie making with details & purity. This is a way better than tons of Bollywood movies & I want few more movies like Kai Po Che, that's all!

Overrated? Absolutely Yes!
But, Kai Po Che! is a good film. One of 2013's handful!

Compared to the usual crap that Bollywood routinely spits out, this one is really good. A lot of it is attributed to the acting in my opinion, though all of the technical stuff is above par as well.
