What happens to Ann now?

The sentence that Ann received was such a slap-on-the-wrist. Does anyone think that a man that kidnaps a child would get 12 years? That guy Phil Garrido & his wife Nancy that kidnapped the Duggard girl and kept her for almost 2 decades have received tougher sentences. Talk about gender bias--women can do anything, even murder, and just get a slap-on-the-wrist. And that ending (showing Carlina bringing her daughter to see Ann in prison & seeing Ann smiling & playing)--how unfair was that to Carlina's real parents? So, what will happen to Ann now in prison? Will the female inmates take physical action against her? That's what happens to men in prison that commit crimes against kids. Will she have to be put in protective custody? Or, don't women do that in prison--they all just get along?

I understand her need to still have a relationship with the abducters family, but my heart definitely hurts for Joy and Carl.. Those people really suffered. They went through hell and back, the whole family did looking for this child and not even knowing whether she's alive or not. You're talking about an infant baby. Somebody mentioned earlier those parents lost her twice -- when she was stolen, and again with the whole money situation.

And Carlina looks EXACTLY like her mom did when she was in her 20s.

And even now she's still estranged from them. Very sad. If it were me I'd wait the 12 years til when she gets outta prison -- track her down and strangle her.

Here's the URL to 'Beyond the Headlines. It's 45 minutes I think.

It went beyond the money, I've heard. Joy wanted her to move to NY while she wanted to stay in Atlanta and she was also upset about her testifying for Ann as well. She didn't grow up with them and hardly knows them so of course they aren't going to become a happy family over night, if at all at this point.

Uuuuum, No. This story has NOTHING to do with a gender biased system. Garrido was and IS a pedophile. For god sakes, he fathered Dugard's kids!! Ann kidnapped Carlina because she genuinely wanted to be her mother. I'm not trying to make any excuses for Ann, she did something really REALLY bad and I'm glad she got her comeuppance but seriously? The two stories couldn't be any more different. Jeeze, do your research.

So your saying it's ok to kidnap an raise somebody's kid and raise it as your own as long as you "genuinely wanted to be her mother"??? WTF kinda logic is that,no wonder our world is so screwd up.I know the male kidnapper as a comparison to this kidnapping is not a good example to show against this one,buy your rational is simply absurd. If a man would have done the exact same thin as the mother did in this kidnapping,i highly doubt he would have received a light 12 year sentence.

papicholoi,
garrido kidnapped and repeatedly rape jaycee.
ann kdinapped and raised carlina.

I think the diff is that garrido assaulted sexually jaycee.

I do think if garrido kidnapped jaycee and raised her he too woulda got 12 yrs.(also there is a state limit to kidnapping but not federal so that is why ann got 12yrs ederal time. she woulda received longer in state court.

It's your rationale which is simply absurd. That guy kidnapped the girl and made her his sexual slave. You really don't see how that's a lot, A LOT worse?.

Completely agree. Are we seriously trying to compare someone kidnapping and sexually abusing someone for years to a woman (that probably had mental issues after losing her baby) that yes took a child that wasn't hers but then raised her into (what from what we saw in the movie) into a strong and smart young lady so obviously her upbringing couldn't have been that bad. I'm not justifying what Ann did but as you said..are we seriously suggesting that she should have the same punishment as a man that obviously kidnapped a child for sick and sexual reasons? Come on now..

I think Ann got of pretty damn good but she deserved more years in my opinion. That was disturbing in the end to have Neffie visit Ann and bring her daughter to see this lady in prison. Really she kidnapped you, I know its just a messed up situation and its really sad that the little girl calls Ann "grandma".

I'm 32 and haven't had a kid yet and would love to have one but I couldn't imagine taking anyone kid my intention would be to adopt at least I might have a better chance.

Good for you. You have empathy for the other person and their rights. You're not caught up in yourself and only yourself and how you feel and what you want.

reply

Im guessing it depends on the crime during. Idk.

I thought the acts against kids had to be sexual abuse?Isn't that what we're told happens to inmates who SEXUALLY ABUSE KIDS? If I'm only going by this movie when it comes to Ann then she didn't molest Netty. What she did was kidnap her and that's against the law.Which explains why she was arrested.
What happens to Ann now?
Well considering you asked that question back in 2012 the answer is Ann goes to prison for kidnapping Netty.
