I absolutely loved the off-kilter atmosphere, the dream-like way people were acting and speaking, it wasn't Lynch-level trippy, but I must say this is one of the better modern neo-noirs I've seen along with Killer Joe.
Go watch 9 Souls on Veehd and thank me later. It is truly an existential masterpiece...

It’s a De Niro/Cusack movie and people think that because it was released day and date then that means it’s crap. So they jump on that bandwagon. Not a lot of thinking for themselves. It’s a tough genre to get a wide release. Perhaps if it had a famous director then it could have got one. It’s a fun, dream like noir. Unusual story. Tense at times but invariably with a witty remark to then relieve the tension.
shareI agree with you. The movie was fairly good and entertaining. A sure sign that a demographic of the movie audience has lumpen proletariat tastes is when you read or hear the words "boring" or "too slow," from them. The average movie now (out of hollywood) contains triple the amount of cuts and edits than a film did 10 years ago. Anything that doesn't have some sort of action or violence every 15 minutes will be called "boring" by an unfortunately large American demographic. And the internet, social and contemporary new media has re-wired the brain.

shareYeah, I realy don't understand why this movie is getting bashed. Just saw it, like it a lot. Interesting story, good acting, convincing characters and a lot of dark athosphere. In my opinion not realy a neo-noir but close enough. I rated it a 7.

shareActing was good, but the story and writing lacked depth. The plot twists were ill conceived and predictable. They way they got in and out of jams was pedestrian. Compare this movie to No Country for Old Men and see what I mean. Also, the contents of the bag was tipped off when Cusack disclosed that his wife was dead. The first thing I thought was "Hmmm, his dead wife's head. Just like Se7en".
