Poor Man's Downton Abbey?
Well? Is it?

No.
This series are an adaptation of the Wodehouse books. Not everything with a house in the country is a Downtown rip off!
Its that man again!!
No. Downton Abbey is a high-budget, stylish soap opera. Blandings is an over-the-top sitcom. Comparing them is like apples and oranges.
shareEh? Dude, stairs don't even come in to this. How you could equate this argument to stairs is beyond me, are you trolling? Talk about scraping the bar.. oh, you said apples and oranges! My mistake.
Opinions are just onions with pi in them.
Apples and oranges perhaps, I actually think it's better than Downton Abbey which turned into Days of Our Lives by second two, I mean seriously Matthew paralyzed for life but gets up and walks in a few episodes, how many soaps how done that old hoary chestnut. Blandings on the other hand, is a wildly funny satire that always entertains and even in the (slightly) weaker ones the cast is so sensational one just enjoys seeing them jump through their loops.

So true! Spall and Farthing have me cracking up constantly. It's Wodehouse, for heaven's sake!
I think Downton Abby is the poor man's Downton Abby. I'm not sure why Masterpiece, formerly Masterpiece Theatre, deigns to show it.
Blandings is a different beast. It's got style, but the style is that of a parody. I would say if you like Blandings, read some Wodehouse. There's SO MUCH of it available at your local library, and it's so much fun to read.
I couldn't agree with you more. Downton Abby is just a daytime soap opera in period costume, what on earth is an actress of Maggie Smith's calibre doing on it. The first season was quite good but they lost me midway in the second and I've only rarely watched it since and always regretting doing so by the end.
