episodes adapted from Wodehouse stories

Eight of the 13 episodes have the same title as an original Wodehouse Blandings story, so I presume they are (at least nominally) adapted from those. (I know from the reviews that they are not entirely faithful.)

The first series tie-in paperback includes Galahad at Blandings ... is that the source for episode 6, "Problems with Drink"? One reviewer states that series 2, episode 1, "Throwing Eggs", is loosely based on A Pelican at Blandings. That leaves 3 episodes unaccounted for: 2:2 "Dirty Work at the Crossroads", 2:3 "Hallo to All This", 2:6 "Necessary Rhino".

Can someone please tell me which Wodehouse stories those episodes are based on? Or are they entirely new stories, made up for the TV series? And just how faithful (or not) are the other adaptations?

reply

I've solved my own question, mostly, though I would welcome confirmation (or corrections) from other Wodehouse fans.

Most of the episodes named after P. G. Wodehouse stories are rather loose adaptations, often combining plots and/or characters from unrelated stories (I haven't determined exactly which), or adding entirely new elements. Several of them are actually very faithful to the original stories.

1:6 "Problems with Drink" is based on parts of the novel Galahad at Blandings
2:1 "Throwing Eggs" is loosely based on Uncle Fred In The Springtime (NOT A Pelican at Blandings)
2:2 "Dirty Work at the Crossroads" draws from both Summer Lightning and Pigs Have Wings
2:3 "Hallo to All This" is also from Summer Lightning
2:6 "Necessary Rhino" is mostly A Pelican At Blandings plus a bit from Full Moon

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's one Wodehouse story based in Blandings that has yet to be tackled in this series (or by any film media, afaik), and that is 'Leave It to Psmith'.

See http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0024248/ although some of the names have been changed.

Wow! That's a blast from the past. Before my time I guess. :-) Wonder if it's on youtube? I'll check. Thanks. :-)

Neither on Youtube, nor as far as I can discover on Internet Archive either. Pity. :-)
