Being in FOX on the first place = Worst mistake by FOX network?

I don't know about this, but there were complaints that this show turns out it is poorly related to FOX network. I know FOX accepted this show because of strong female leads, just like New Girl. Yeah, I know there are too many forced-changes along the way. But I think I read about these are the problems that should result as reasonable:

1.) Mindy Kaling never quite like Zooey Deschanel.

2.) The Mindy Project is made by NBC and the entire FOX cannot be related completely yet to ABC, NBC and CBS.

Do you agree that this show should have been accepted by Hulu rather than FOX back in 2012, when this series began back then?

reply

Not that it actually matters at this point, but Hulu didn't have so many originals back in 2012. If anything, it would have been more likely to be on HBO. Also, being on Fox helped it build a fanbase, which traveled to Hulu. I think the show was a good fit for Fox, though. None of their sit-coms are high-rated. New Girl isn't. It was just the beginning of the end of network shows having any kind of ratings to speak of. There is really only one network sit-com that has ratings much over 1.0, and that is Big Bang Theory. But Fox has always had the quirkier comedies like Brooklyn Nine-Nine or their new show, The Mick.

Each network has a type of comedy that is their brand. ABC has family comedies (The Middle, Modern Family, Speechless this year). CBS has a lot of comedies that are very conventional and sort of vehicles for a main star, such as Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, Kevin James, all in shows that seem pretty much alike. Before these shows, they had Mike and Molly (vehicle for Melissa McCarthy) and Two and a Half Men (vehicle for Charlie Sheen). NBC has more unusual, more cerebral shows like Superstore and The Good Place (recently renewed with very so-so ratings), building on the type of shows they used to have like 30 Rock and The Office, and Fox has more quirky, slapstick shows, often with diverse casts. Mindy fit in with those shows precisely because she doesn't fit any other network's mold. They can't just clone New Girl. They tried to do that a couple of times, most recently with Weird Loners, and it didn't work. Shows like that (and Seinfeld and Friends before them) work because of getting the right combination of actors.

Yeah, I know she doesn't fit any other network's mold, but there were complaints that this show does not still fit in FOX along the way right after FOX accepted this show on the first place in 2012.

Complaints from whom? Trolls on this board who think Mindy not being on Fox would have made room for some mythical other show that would have been better? I think hindsight has proven that would not have been the case. Most of Fox's shows have failed way harder than Mindy ever did. Like that dumb show with John Stamos (Fox actually rejected a previous John Stamos show in favor of The Mindy Project). Fox served its purpose for Mindy and Mindy served its purpose for Fox. Now it's over. End of story.

Complaints from all publicities: fans and critics.

By the way, do you remember mentioning about this show imitating "Master Of None"? If so, then if you think that "Master Of None" imitating mentioning is considered true, then that is also confirmed to be part of FOX's worst mistake of accepting this show and this show imitating Master Of None should have been accepted in the different network than FOX since the beginning of this series.

Yeah of course, when this show was in FOX, then I was concerned why this show didn't fit in FOX because, not only FOX isn't completely related to NBC, ABC and CBS yet, this show did not failed badly as the other FOX shows, at the same time. That I will agree with you this time and I will prove that this end of story for this show to be in FOX.

Do you mean I specifically said this show imitated Master of None? Because, no, I'd never say that because I know that Master of None had its first season last year and Mindy is older. I'd have to be an idiot to say that. I guess the shows are similar in that they are one-person-led shows that are just about that character and what they do instead of being a typical sit-com with a premise you could describe. But, that said, Master of None is more similar to Louie because, unlike Mindy, it didn't feel the need to have a "regular cast." That is likely because it was not on a major network to start and was not bound by those conventions.

May be the last time I'll see you Irehawk, as IMDB is getting rid of its message boards.

I already know that about IMDB getting rid its message boards, but it looks like they might shutdown the IMDB website officially, just in case.

Yeah, Master of None imitation was not the correct move to bring it up. But I still think FOX should never have accepted this show on the first place, even if it cannot be accepted on NBC, ABC or CBS at the same time. It should have been accepted in a different cable network, which is a little more advanced than Hulu, since the beginning of this series on the first place.
