What happen to all the other girls who used to be on the show ?

Is it me or did she got rid of all the other attractive women on the show ? Now is mostly her. The black chick , Jody's sister (who i do not find funny) and Beverly who they got rid of her and now they brought back. Did Mindy fired them ? Also i think the quality of the show has sank. I'm not surprise that Fox decided not to renew it. I think now is not as funny as it used to be.

The show has undergone a number of noticeable cast changes, but that's the case when you're a very low-rated FOX show and the network desperately wants to keep you on the air.

- Anna Camp originally had a big role as Mindy's best friend, but they realized they wanted the show to be more about the office so she was cut.

- At the office, Stephen Tobolowsky was expected to be her boss, but was only in a handful of episodes.

- Amanda Setton had a role as another nurse but was cut halfway through the first season.

- Zoe Jarman had a small role for a few year as Betsy, but since they felt her lines could be given to Beverley, and take on a more comedic role, she was eventually let go.

- The Adam Pally and Chris Messina situations have been well-documented too.

Since going to Hulu the show has become more stable though.

Anna, Amanda and Stephen were written out of this show early in the first season, but Stephen did returned to show's fourth season as a reduced guest actor.

Zoe was let go of this cast, but not yet out of this show due to her strong romantic comedy talent. They reduced her as a guest actress and they planning to offer her an option guest appear sometime in the future, but it has not been finalized yet.

Beverley is funny, which I agree, but very hard to get along with her, but we need more returned guest appearances of Annette, Danny' mother, and her friend Dot as much as possible.

Even if Adam's and Chris' situations are well-documented, that could also result as the same thing on Ed's situations ASAP.

reply

You know i gotta check out that Chris and Adam info that you mentioned.

reply

Don't forget about Ed.

reply

Why would she cast them if she felt threatened by them? It doesn't make sense!
Tamra is really pretty, so why would she keep her if she doesn't want other attractive women on the show!
And remember the new doctor, she is gorgeous.

Anna Camp had other compromises, if I remember correctly.
And maybe the other actresses didn't work that well with the rest of the cast.

reply

I'm not in a hurry to bring back Gwen or Shauna, but Betsy might return to this as reduced guest sometime in the future episodes of this show, as promised. Tamra is okay rather than Beverly alone.

reply

I think Xosha Roquemore is really pretty (Does saying "the black girl" mean she's not attractive -- I thought the idea that a woman could be black AND attractive was established as far back as Nichelle Nichols on Star Trek). Also, they just got that new doctor, who is really pretty, Rebecca Rittenhouse. I'll admit that, when I first saw her, I thought she was too pretty and wouldn't be very funny!

Anna Camp's character was written off very early on. Like, the show has been on five seasons now, and Anna Camp hasn't been on four of them. It was a stupid decision to have Mindy have a married best friend who lives in Connecticut. Like, how was that possibly going to work when Mindy herself was supposed to live in New York and be single. This is the kind of friend that, in real life, people drift apart from. Amanda Setton also left first season and was replaced with Xosha. If I had to guess, it was probably because people complained that there weren't enough actors of color on the show but, that said, I think Tamra is funny.

Fun fact: Beverly was only supposed to be on the one episode, but they liked her so much they brought her back mid-season. Beth Grant has been a huge cheerleader for the show.

I'll have to admit I haven't really thought of any sit-com as someplace I go to look at eye candy. I mean, I guess maybe Two Broke Girls, but shows I like, like Superstore or Brooklyn Nine-nine are usually pretty much about average-looking people (Ben Feldman on Superstore looks a little out-of-place as basically a Wal-Mart employee, but I guess that is the point). It's dramas like Grey's Anatomy or How to Get Away With Murder that are about hot people. I guess there is that "Schlubby guy with a hot wife" type of sit-com (like Kevin James's new show), but in this case, the woman is the funny lead. I don't know why the "Where are all the pretty girls?" question seems to come up constantly for Mindy Project, but she seems to have heard the outcry and cast someone who is Evening Soap Opera attractive in Rebecca Rittenhouse.

I'm hoping she'll be funny. It seems like they could butt heads the way Mindy and Danny used to, only without the romance!

I like Xosha completely, but they may need more returned guest appearances of both Annette and Dot as much as possible. I think Beth (Beverley), Rhea (Annette) and Jenny (Dot) should be the huge cheerleader trio of this show, IMO.

reply

When i said "The Black Girl" i didn't mean it like that. I just didn't remember her name. Notice i didn't remember the name of Jodie's sister so i called her like that too. I didn't said Tamara wasn't pretty i just asked what happen to all the rest of the women on the show. But that being said i just don't find Tamara that funny maybe is just me. Maybe is the material she's been giving. But that's what i keep hearing people saying "Why they god rid of all the other attractive actress on the show ?" And all these rumors. That's why i asked. I gotta check it out info on that's stuff of Danny people are saying.

reply

I think Tamra is supposed to represent who Mindy is trying to be, the cool, hip, young woman of color. I think it is funny when Tamra shuts her down about that.

reply

I like Tamra so far...

reply

Tamra is one of the most attractive women that has been on the show. Also, Kaling was probably involved in the hiring of the other attractive women in the first place. Some of them got too busy and some just didn't work as well as cast members.

"Call me in about a week."
"So it could be cancer? Hey, doc. You don't be a stranger either."

reply

But mentioning "Some of them got too busy and some just didn't work as well as cast members" might be too fast and too forward which can continue the letdown of this show, which is reasonable, IMO.

reply

I don't believe for a minute that Mindy Kaling feels threatened by any female cast member. I'm sure she's trying to do whatever is best for her show.

For me it's become a bit of a mess, frankly. And I was a huge fan of the show from the beginning. I'll never understand why Fox would keep the very unfunny New Girl and cancel Mindy.

reply

Mindy is an NBC show, while New Girl is a FOX show. She feels threatened more by Beverly, that's all.

reply

Mindy was a fox show before it got moved to Hulu.

reply

It is an NBC show, but it was in FOX before it got moved to Hulu.

reply

Mindy's ego could not handle the fact that other talented women exist in her self-entitlement ego stroke she calls a 'show' so she got them fired. Apparently all the men exist only to interact with her and her ONLY.

reply

Am I the only one who LOVES Jody's sister? Like, I think she's a fricking hilarious character and I want a spin-off where she and Tuckers get some awesome roommates and start a dog-hotel or something.

reply

This^^ It is called the MINDY Project after all. It isn't about her girl friends, her employees, her fellow doctors, her love interests or, heck, even her child. It is about her and always has been. If you can accept that and go along, you'll love the show.

Anna Camp was in like 2 episodes out of 100, so far. Why is this still a big deal. People's entourage often change, you'd think especially in a city with 10 million people. It was weird that the 3 cute white girls were written off early on, but some really good characters have also come and gone since.

Would we prefer a bloated cast of 20 people like the Office ended up, wondering why half of them are still there?

reply

Exactly. I can only think of two possible explanations for people repeatedly asking about Anna Camp when it's been 5 years since she was on the show. One, the show has new life on Hulu, so tons of people are just now watching season 1 and wonder about it or two (the more likely scenario), the entire population of Anna Camp's hometown in South Carolina is going online forever to protest her not being kept on. Like, who cares about Anna Camp's character? The writers made a huge mistake in giving Mindy a married best friend who lived in Connecticut. It made the show unwieldy, so they scaled it back to be mostly an office setting. Also, Anna Camp is not particularly funny, at least not in the zany way this show is. She didn't fit. They also got rid of Dr. Shulman. Over the years, they have given Mindy other confidantes, starting with Morgan, sometimes Tamra, and, most recently, her character's mother and brother.

It is obvious to anyone who has watched the show that it was spotty in the beginning and trying to find its way. It obviously did, as it is still around. It is common for shows to retool in this way in early seasons. There is even a term for it, Chuck Cunningham Syndrome, where characters just disappear because they didn't work. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ChuckCunninghamSyndrome The most famous example I can think of, of this was the 1980s show, The Facts of Life, which started off being about a whole pack of girls at a boarding school (including a young Molly Ringwald). The second season, they wrote out all but four of them.

For a more recent example of a show that has retooled a lot, watch Mom. In the first season, the show was about the main character, Christy, her mother Bonnie, her children, and her job at a restaurant. By the second season, the restaurant characters had become recurring and peripheral, but the show had added Christy's and Bonnie's AA group members as major characters. At this point, the children are barely on (The daughter moved out, and the son is perpetually with his father and stepmother), and I can't remember the last episode that took place at the restaurant, though we know Christy still works there. Good. The restaurant parts were boring. I just looked at Mom's board, and while there is one post about her kids barely being on, not one single person is asking about French Stewart, who was a main character for way longer than Anna Camp was on Mindy. The cast of Mom shows only two characters, Christy and Bonnie, who have been on every episode.

Can I say I think it is a little weird that half the people on this board are accusing Mindy Kaling of being racist for not having enough POC on the show while the other half (and sometimes, they are the same people) are accusing her of something or other for writing off the pretty white girls in favor of 1) Tamra, an African-American female character 2) her mother, a middle-aged Indian character and 3) Colette, a gay character? 4) Beverly, played by an older actress? Yeah, that darn Mindy Kaling, hiring non-white or non-beautiful people. How dare she?

reply

About her and always has been is now clear now to the public, there's no need to overdo it.

I know it was weird that the 3 cute white girls were written off early on and some really good characters have also come and gone since. Although, one of the 3 cute white girls might return to this show as a reduced guest in a few future episodes, as proposed. That could be the same thing for Danny and Peter also.

reply

By the way, alternatively, if you insist on mentioning this permanently:

"It isn't about her girl friends, her employees, her fellow doctors, her love interests or, heck, even her child. It is about her and always has been."

Then that can be considered that FOX network should not have accepted this show since the beginning of this series on the first place at all, IMO.

reply

She got them fired in wrong bad timing, but one of them might return to this show as a reduced guest in the future episode. I know all the men exist only to interact with he and her ONLY, but that should not take too long to complete, besides not too short along the way.
