Nurse Carrie

A nurse (or any employee) does not talk to families like she does

I thought she was quite rude all the time as well speaking with the family of a terminally ill father. My uncle was on life support and the nurses were very nice and let us come in and out as we pleased since his condition was bad. If we had someone like that nurse we would have had major issues and discussed with the hospital board.

One would like to think so but that is simply not true.

I was persoally threatened with physical harm by a pretty huge male nurse. My grandmother died of a treatable cancer because her doctor told her "no news is good news." She did not hear back so took him at his word that all the biopsies were normal. They weren't. By the time she went back because she still didn't feel well she learned that she did, in fact, have cancer and they simply *forgot* to call her to tell her. She died less than a year later.

A friend took her very sick teenager to an ER several years ago and the doctor came into the bay with bloody gloves (against health regulations) and she politely asked him to remove them and wash his hands before examining her daughter. He got offended that she dare question him on this and not only stormed from the sick child but refused to see her. My friend ended up having to ask a nurse to help her find another ER doctor on duty as she had to watch her child crying, writhing in pain while the first doctor had his temper tanturm.

Another woman I know was molested by an MRI technician who thought she was "out of it" because she was given a "twilight" (not full anesthesia but not being totally awake). He unzipped his pants and moved her arms and hands to touch his crotch area and was startled that she was aware of what was happening. She tried to control her arms but couldn't but she turned her head and he jumped up in fear. Her complaint to the Board was dismissed and he is still at that hospital, probably molesting other female patients.

Another woman I know went to a very big and well-known hospital. She was seeing a gynecologist for an annual exam. The doctor's nurse was hateful and outright nasty to everyone. She purposely put the speculum directly on the heat lamp and left the woman there waiting for almost 30 minutes. By the time the doctor came in to perform the exam, the metal speculum was scorching hot and she was burned inside and outside and had to go to the ER. Somehow, her records "were lost" so she wasn't even able to submit an official complaint against the nurse, doctor or hospital.

I am glad you have had all positive experiences with medical personnel. All of mine haven't been horrible, but they all haven't been positive either. It's a horrible experience. It's bad enough to be sick and not know why but to be abused and/or neglected by people who are often burnt-out, believe in their own hype and/or feel "untouchable" is a world-wide tragedy.
