This sucks.

Sorry, misleading title :D (a controversial cry for attention)

So, I just got my Japanese blu-ray the other day, and got around to watching it tonight. What sucks is that I have to wait to see the next one.

It was amazing. There was obviously stuff that needed to be cut for time, and a few things I felt should have been kept in, otherwise it was perfect.

Oh, except that they made Griffith a little... well.. Less manly.

A fan of Berserk could hardly be happier with this. I was literally smiling for a very huge portion of the movie. Worried about mature themes being toned down? I knew this was not to be the case when BAZUSO'S EYE POPPED OUT. Like in the manga! That didn't even happen in the series. (swoon)

I need the sequels.

reply

Say it as it is. They made Griffith a little bitch boy. Other than that... good!

reply

If you really want me to say it as it is, they made Griffith like Guts... a little more than I ever got the impression from in the Manga or the original series.
(spoilers?)

I'm super excited to see the 100 man slaying. Also, this seems to be more serious in tone than in other versions... I wonder how they are going to handle Adon. He's ridiculous in any iteration, and I hope they don't make him so serious. Also, Pakk! How will they do that. Hmmm.

reply

Agreed.

I think they should have started it off like the Manga and introducing Pakk right away. What I'm more curious to see it death knight, but prob not for a fe more movies.

reply

A couple of trailers (I think the one for the second movie does) show him. He looks exactly how he should.

totally sucks that we have to wait quite a while for the next few movies, totally sucks :p watching it though and the violence is about on par with the manga.. but like the poster above said, what about the more... graphic details of the manga? I'm sure they went with the 'film' formate to not only have a bigger budget but to also bypass some of the censorship laws. I guess we will see in the 3rd movie how far they can/will take the graphic nature of the manga. Grant it the last part of the arc isn't the most *beep* up in terms of content, but it will be a good benchmark to see what they will animate.

reply

I don't expect we'll be seeing Wyald's wingus plopped onto Guts's head, but I mean.. as hilarious as that is, I don't know if it's particularly plot necessary. But so far, they've given me the impression that a valiant effort is being put in to stay true to the manga (nekkid Caska).
What I'm also interested in, is where the three movies of this arc will start. This movie was super short, but reportedly the next two are much longer. I was really expecting the next two to be short also because there's about an equal amount of content by the point where the first movie ended. (I think that sentence was nonsense, but I think you get what I'm saying.) I mean, there really aren't too meny big plot 'points' to show for the rest of the arc, so I'm just guessing they're going to go into further detail about them.

Update : So, I just watched the trailer for the second movie (and obviously more spoilers, from the manga) I saw Griffith freaking out and crying after the duel, and then being tortured. Seriously. How much is left after this for a third movie?! This absolutely has to go past the eclipse. Going into the black swordsman arc a bit. They definitely at least have to have Wyald, and Silat for filler if nothing else!

reply

*spoiler* Not sure what you mean here. Are you afraid the 3rd one will be short? I think the 2nd one will probably cover until Guts depart (and the downfall of Griffith & Band of the Hawks), maybe with introduction of Skullknight.

Then the 3rd one will be about Guts coming back, Guts and Casca romance, rescue of Griffith, Wyald fight, and ends with the Eclipse (this is one of the important scene so i think they will make it long), and introduction of Puck, etc.
*end spoiler*
I think it will be long enough.

reply

If the second movie's trailer is correct, it definitely goes into the downfall of the hawks. They show Griffith all skinnied up and tortured. So it's either going to end there, or go until they get him back. The third is supposed to be as long as the second movie. If they were all as short as the first one, it would make more sense. It's just that they blew through so much on the first one, and the second one obviously also covers a ton of ground, I'm not sure how/why they will stretch out the remainder of the arc at the current pace. But you're probably right. They'll probably slow things down for several of the key parts. Just weird that they would go so quickly through so much and change it up for other things. :/ I wonder if they'll dip their toe into the black swordsman arc.

reply

Just got back from watching the second movie.

It finishes with Guts leaving and Griffiths being tortured. So it makes you wonder how much beyond the eclipse (if at all) they will go in the third film...

reply

So! How was it, the movie?

I cant wait to see it.

reply

if the make only 3 movies.. is gonna end like the tv series.

reply

The eclipse sequence is the only part I really REALLY wanted to see. This is like waiting for the Hobbit.
