Needed a better actress than Rebecca Hall (Evyllen)

It's the main actor, not Johnny Depp.

I have no idea who she is.

Despite her American accent I thought she looked incredibly British and yes, she is.

All and all she lacked the gravitas that the role required.

The role of the scientist woman did not require gravitas, just believability. And she did fine.

Disagree. Her struggle of wanting him to be him and not just a computer on a power hungry rampage was all over the shop. I think she lacked the tour de force required.

It's not a stage play but a B-movie with a single A-lister (at the time). She did fine.

A believable scientist needs to be objective, not emotional. She failed.

You would think so, wouldn't you? Unfortunately even scientists are just human beings and can have doubts about just about anything when their love life is involved.

Other candidates for the role were Noomi Rapace and Emily Blunt. At least the latter might have been an interesting choice. Less hysterical, you know...

I didn't like the character's personality either but it's ok to have dissonants.

You cannot find a better actress than Rebecca Hall. It's impossible.
