Complete hell on earth brought about by a bunch of technophobe *beep*

And I'm supposed to root for them? what the *beep*? Nobody even attempted to express their concerns about the whole networked people thing which was the only questionable thing will ever did

reply

Yes, they did. Electricity going out and the Internet going down is going to lead to a lot of deaths, as well as general social turmoil for ages, an aspect very much glossed over. Nonetheless, the "people network" was extremely creepy and it was not some minor "slip of judgment" on his part, it was a horrifying threat. At that point, everyone was screwed, and it was the choice between the AI tyrant ruling them forever or throwing Earth into chaos and letting it rebuild from the conditions of the late 1800s.

"that thing is new technology and I don't understand it, we must kill it." a movie for technophobes. Doesn't matter if we can use the nanotechnology to heal everything, it's OK to send us back to stone age, just kill it!

reply

They thought he wanted to rule the world. The humans were afraid. Darn us humans... We can beat any animal, even an ai!

And what about all of the nuclear plants that are going to break down and start to spew because there's no juice to run them.

reply

Nuclear plants have backup generators, they are already programmed to be able to shut down without the grid and of course without networks.

I don't think you ever were supposed to root for the technophobes. You were supposed to question the AI's objectives, since it was essentially creating Borg-like drones. Once you realize that the AI truly was Will and truly loved Evelyn, you realize just how wrong the technophobes were.

I liked the movie, and I see the creation AIs as one of the most important goals of mankind.

I don't think anyone was supposed to root for the technophobes or Will & his Borg drones.

Agreed. This is ultimately the problem of the film for me. There's really no one to root for.

What would be so bad with everyone on earth being connected like that imagine if aliens invaded we would absolutely destroy them as one mind. Imagine if he could combine every mind on the planet to use as processing power the human race could literally evolve to be shepherds of the entire galaxy god level status.

I Kinda had the same thought. Idk why but during the last part of the movie I was thinking we could handle an alien invasion with Will in control much better than we could without him. They should have saved him on a floppy disk and booted him back up in case Indepence Day 3 happened. I dont want a sequel for this movie, but I would love to see the aliens from Battle: LA or Skyline attack and Will and the the government team up against them. Now that I would go see in a heartbeat.
