Does it really only take 8 hours?

Or is that the illusion of the show? As a tattoo layman, I would have thought some of the tattooing alone would take many hours, let alone the design process before. I find it hard to believe they just go into a back room to 'draw something up' and pop out with a finished design an hour or so later?
