Linklater should make one final film called: 'After'

Every relationship has an end. It could be divorce or death. And then there's the relationship that exists after. I think death would be too extreme but I could see divorce...and how their relationship continues on after that. Everyone changes and we see how they remain friends and maybe as we fade out, we see that they love each other even if they can't live with each other and we're left wondering if they do get back together.

After how depressing this film was, I need to see a happy next film. But if this film hadn't been so depressing, I think you have a beautiful idea.

I agree it wasn't a great movie it felt incomplete, frustrating and too much anxiety. I think we've missed seeing movies that have to deal with relationships AFTER the romantic relationship is over.

We see ROM COM movies like when Harry Met Sally; we see movies about when a spouse dies like Terms of Endearment; we see movies when a relationship dies like Revolutionary Road.

But what about when the marriage is over but the relationship still continues, particularly when there are children. Or when one of the spouses needs support - financial, health, emotional assistance.

I like this quote from "I never sang for my father": Death ends a life but it does not end a relationship, which struggles on in the survivor?s mind toward some final resolution, some clear meaning, which it perhaps never finds.?

So change one word and you have this: Divorce ends a marriage but it does not end a relationship, which struggles on in the survivor?s mind toward some final resolution, some clear meaning, which it perhaps never finds.?

They were never married, so the divorce probably won't happen.

The idea of seeing their relationship after splitting up sounds interesting, but I'd think it'd be too similar to Before Sunset, where they were already dealing with overcoming years of separation and distance

And yeah, I think death would be too extreme. That's Linklater's forte for sure, but it seems inappropriate for the "Before" films

Howard Hughes was Italian?

Good idea. Perhaps, "After Sunset"?

There was a bit of foreshadowing in Before Midnight with the conversation about their funeral. Celine said she would want Jesse to attend her funeral along with her daughters. They should make a film where Celine gets ill. Maybe they were headed towards divorce until this news happens. Jesse supports her to the end and they rediscover their love for one another on a deeper level. They can close the film with Jesse watching the sunset with his daughters then the three of them walking away.

If the OP's version happened few would care if they ever got back together. They'd be like all the other pathetic couples that devolve into hate - instead of being like the couples that have difficult struggles but who's love prevents the relationship from going into the abyss. By the end of BM, they've already gone beyond that point.
