damn this film left me speechless

That's absolutely one of the few similar movies that came to my mind.

Another, even closer match is Avalon. The Congress probably belongs as well.

The kings of arthouse sci-fi, however, remain 2001: A Space Odyssey and Upstream Color.

And I think I have now mentioned every great film that could qualify for that sub-genre. (There are some good ones, like The Road.)
