American tattoos only

Did the Americans invent tattoos?
Did any other country have tattoos?
Did any other country have or forward social acceptance of tattooing?

This film doesn't help understand anything to do with the history of tattoos or world wide understand of them.
Only the American ratio revolution allowed... Pft

If I remember my history correctly, Tattooing was first discovered in Asia, then these discoveries moved across the world. From China, Japan, New Zealand, Africa, Britain etc.

I don't believe it's known which country were the first exactly, as I think other cultures had their own similar religious decorative practises.

But no. America did not invent Tattooing.

...and don't point your fooking tentacles at me!

Interesting point - however it certainly wasn't the aim of the documentary to cover global or historic tatooing - it was its stated goal to cover the roots of the explosion in the US, which it does very well indeed - looking at line, and black and grey work in the Chicano culture etc; what I would complaiin about is it lack of substantial time to the tipping point of how and why tatooing has become a social norm - it mentions this throughout, but avoids the really hard work of discovering exactly how it happened...

This was actually touched upon toward the end of the documentary, as customized art and photo realism made its way across the nation, so too did the acceptance of this art form. Many people who used to find tattoos repulsive began to understand that they could personally express themselves with more personalized/creative/realistic looking tattoos and once that happened other parts of society began to delve into the world - thus widening acceptance of tattoos and tattoo culture as a whole.

The title of the Documentary is "Tattoo Nation" not "Tattoo World". This movie did mention other countries and their tattoo styles and cultures and how they influenced American Tattooing. Please, watch the movie - at no time did anyone in the movie try to claim that tattooing started in America. They discuss the progression of tattooing in the Nation (America) with American artists, experts, and collectors (as well as artists and experts from around the world)....
