Rip off of "Chasing Papi"

I see repeated claims this movie is based on an original idea (http://variety.com/2012/film/news/melissa-stack-to-pen-fox-comedy-1118048699/). However, the plot is way too similar to "Chasing Papi" (released in 2003 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0323572/), for that to be true.
